About the Role
  • We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Junior Accountant to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, reconciling accounts, and ensuring compliance with Australian accounting standards and tax regulations.
Key Responsibilities
  • Reconcile bank and credit card transactions daily, applying correct GST and account codes.
  • Manage Dext by reviewing and coding incoming bills to pay and receipts to the correct accounts and GST for export to Xero. Prepare batch payment files in Xero for review, ensuring accuracy and completeness before submission.
  • Assist in the timely preparation of payroll, ensuring compliance with Fair Work and legal requirements, subject to review.
  • Assist in preparing and lodging BAS, IAS, and superannuation payments.
  • Assist with financial reporting and month-end journal entries.
  • Record and reconcile accruals, prepayments, and WorkCover journal entries to support accurate month-end financials.
  • Liaise with external accountants and auditors as needed.
  • Ensure compliance with ATO regulations and other relevant legislation.
  • Consistently meet all reporting and payment deadlines to avoid penalties and maintain the business's reputation.
  • Identify opportunities to streamline and improve bookkeeping processes and internal controls.
Requirements
  • Minimum of 2 years' experience in Australian accounting.
  • Strong understanding of GST, PAYG, superannuation, and STP.
  • Proficient in accounting software, particularly Xero.
  • Experience with Employment Hero and Dext is a plus.
  • High level of attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Excellent time management and organisational skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with internal teams, suppliers, and customers to resolve queries and ensure smooth financial operations.
  • Ability to work independently and meet deadlines.
