About the Role

  • We're looking for a detail-oriented Junior Accountant to join our team. You'll be responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, reconciling accounts, and ensuring compliance with Australian accounting standards and tax regulations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Reconcile bank and credit card transactions daily, applying correct GST and account codes.
  • Manage Dext by reviewing and coding incoming bills and receipts to the correct accounts and GST for export to Xero.
  • Prepare batch payment files in Xero for review, ensuring accuracy and completeness before submission.
  • Assist with payroll preparation, ensuring compliance with Fair Work and legal requirements.
  • Support the preparation and lodgment of BAS, IAS, and superannuation payments.
  • Assist with financial reporting and month-end journal entries.
  • Record and reconcile accruals, prepayments, and WorkCover journal entries for accurate month-end financials.
  • Liaise with external accountants and auditors as needed.
  • Ensure compliance with ATO regulations and other relevant legislation.
  • Meet all reporting and payment deadlines to avoid penalties and maintain the company's good standing.
  • Identify opportunities to streamline processes and strengthen internal controls.

Requirements

  • 1–2 years of experience in Australian accounting.
  • Proficient in Xero.
  • Experience with Employment Hero and Dext is a plus.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Excellent time management and organisational skills.
  • Good communication skills for working with internal teams, suppliers, and customers.
  • Ability to work independently and meet deadlines.
