Working in over 45 countries, it promotes sustainable economic and social development by working with local communities to reduce poverty, and challenges on literacy and health and nutrition. The IRW also responds to disasters and emergencies, helping people in crisis by providing them immediate relief and recover from the effects of the disaster. In the Philippines, the Islamic Relief started operations in 2013 in response to the needs of the people affected by Typhoon Haiyan.
