About the Role

The Head of Technology is a senior leadership role responsible for overseeing the management software and business intelligence projects within an organization. This role typically involves managing a team of software developers, project managers, business intelligence engineers, and other professionals involved in the software development lifecycle and business analytics requirements. The Head of Technology works closely with stakeholders to understand project requirements, define project scope, and develop project plans. They are responsible for ensuring that projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to the required quality standards in addition to facilitating communications with other department heads and translating, both ways, the commercial requirements of projects vs. the technical specifications and parameters of the software. The Head of Technology also plays a key role in driving process improvement initiatives to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of the software delivery process.

What you'll do

  • Supervise and delegate duties to the development team, ensuring that tasks are completed efficiently and effectively.
  • Guide and help leads supervise different stacks (PHP, MERN, and Front-end), providing technical expertise and guidance as needed.
  • Establish and guide development standards for the team, ensuring that code quality and best practices are maintained.
  • Deliver reports and proposals to upper management, providing updates on project progress and highlighting any issues or risks.
  • Help formulate a timeline and collaborate with the product and scrum team to ensure that deadlines are met.
  • Communicate with other teams, including QA, design, and scrum, for requirements and updates, ensuring smooth coordination and communication.
  • Collaborate with project managers, product owners, and other stakeholders to define project goals and deliverables.
  • Develop project plans, allocate resources, and ensure deadlines are met, monitoring project progress and addressing any issues or risks.
  • Stay updated on industry trends, technologies, and best practices, providing technical expertise and guidance to the team.
  • Collaborate with architects and senior developers to design robust and scalable software solutions.
  • Conduct code reviews to ensure code quality, adherence to coding standards, and best practices.
  • Implement and enforce coding standards and quality assurance processes.
  • Identify and mitigate risks related to software development projects, developing contingency plans to address potential issues.
  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement within the team, implementing and iterating on development processes to enhance efficiency and productivity.
  • Communicate effectively with team members, stakeholders, and upper management, providing regular updates on project status, milestones, and challenges.
  • Address technical and interpersonal challenges within the team, troubleshooting and resolving issues that arise during the development process.
  • Stay flexible and adaptable to changing priorities and requirements, adjusting strategies and plans based on evolving project needs or organizational goals.
  • Ensure the quality and integrity of BI solutions through thorough testing and QA processes.
  • Collaborate with other departments, such as IT and business operations, to ensure alignment of BI solutions with organizational goals and objectives.

What You Bring

  • Bachelor's degree in software engineering, computer science, or other relevant degree.
  • Minimum of 4 years of experience as Senior Software Development Manager, Senior IT Manager, or similar capacity as level 2 manager.
  • Proven expertise in software development (PHP, Javascript, MERN), systems architecture, technical business analysis, or quality testing prior to assuming leadership roles.
  • Proven experience in managing projects relevant to HR, Finance, Sales, Marketing, and various business functions.
  • Proven ability to provide technical leadership and direction.
  • Strong communication, stakeholder management, and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience with agile scrum and other methodologies.
  • Strong experience with git versioning.
  • Strong server experience: Docker, Google App and Compute Engine.
  • Nginx and Apache server experience.
