The Customs Compliance Manager is responsible for ensuring that the company adheres to all applicable legal standards, regulations, and internal policies. This role involves overseeing regulatory compliance for products, including but not limited to engineered hardwood flooring, luxury vinyl tile, cabinetry, and wall coverings. The manager ensures adherence to these standards through both third party and internal audits.

Job Description:

  • Stay up to date with changes in industry regulations and standards, ensuring compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, and internal policies.
  • Share relevant updates and compliance requirements across the organization.
  • Help to develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive customs compliance policies and procedures to ensure adherence to relevant import/export regulations, tariff classifications, and documentation requirements.
  • Regularly review and update policies to reflect changes in custom laws and regulations and assist in providing training and guidance to employees to ensure they understand and comply with customs compliance protocols.
  • Coordinate with our third-party auditor to audit foreign factories.
  • Ensure that all foreign suppliers meet regulatory and company standards.
  • Conduct quarterly internal audits to ensure compliance with legal standards and internal policies.
  • Prepare comprehensive reports on audit findings and recommend corrective actions.
  • Identify and evaluate areas of significant risk, including sourcing and manufacturing practices.
  • Implement measures to mitigate potential compliance risks.
  • Maintain accurate records of compliance activities, including audit reports, product certifications, material origins, complaints, investigations, and corrective actions.
  • Ensure documentation is well organized and accessible for both internal and external review.
  • Assist in investigating and resolving any custom compliance issues related to our products.
  • Provide recommendations for resolution and ensure follow through on corrective actions.
  • Serve as the liaison between company entities, suppliers, and regulatory bodies.
  • Prepare and submit customs compliance reports as required, with oversight from the director of operations.
  • Continuously review and enhance customs compliance program and practices, incorporating industry best practices and emerging standards.

Screening Criteria:

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field or an equivalent combination of education and related work experience.
  • Minimum of three (3) to five (5) years of experience in a compliance role preferably within the flooring, construction, or manufacturing industry.
  • Must have a stable employment history.

Required Qualifications:

  • In-depth understanding of industry regulations and standards encompassing the Lacey Act, CARB/TSCA, and pertinent regulations
  • Ability to analyze complex regulatory issues and develop effective solution to mitigate them.
  • Maintains a high level of accuracy and precision in managing compliance records and documentation.
  • Clear and coherent in both written and verbal communication skills to effectively communicate regulatory updates and compliance requirements to all levels of the organization.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build strong working relationships with internal teams, suppliers, and regulatory bodies to facilitate compliance efforts.
  • Listens attentively to understand compliance concerns and provides appropriate guidance and support.
  • Capability of working independently, taking initiative to address compliance issues proactively.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, utilizing Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) effectively for compliance documentation, reporting, and communication.
  • Strong organizational skills to manage compliance activities and maintain accurate records.
  • Ability to leveage technology effectively to enhance compliance processes and improve efficiency.
  • Meticulous attention to detail, ensuring all compliance procedures are followed.
  • Provides strong leadership in managing compliance programs and guiding teams towards achieving compliance objectives.
  • Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information with the utmost integrity and discretion.
