The Sous Chef – Pastry assists the Head Pastry Chef in planning, preparing, and presenting high-quality desserts, baked goods, and pastries. This role oversees pastry operations, manages staff, ensures quality control, and maintains consistency in recipes and presentation. The Sous Chef – Pastry also monitors inventory, enforces hygiene standards, and contributes to menu development while supporting kitchen efficiency.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist the Head Pastry Chef in preparing and presenting desserts, pastries, and baked goods
- Supervise, train, and mentor pastry staff to maintain high culinary standards
- Ensure consistency, taste, and visual presentation of all pastry items
- Manage inventory, order ingredients, and control food costs
- Develop and test new pastry recipes and seasonal menu items
- Ensure compliance with food safety, sanitation, and hygiene standards
- Maintain cleanliness, organization, and proper storage of pastry kitchen
- Assist in scheduling, delegating tasks, and monitoring staff performance
- Collaborate with other kitchen departments to ensure smooth operations
- Monitor daily production and quality control, addressing issues promptly
Qualifications
- Proven experience in pastry and baking, preferably in a professional kitchen
- Culinary degree or relevant certification preferred
- Leadership skills with the ability to train and supervise staff
- Creativity and attention to detail in presentation and taste
- Strong knowledge of kitchen safety and sanitation standards
