The Database Analyst is responsible for designing, managing, and optimizing organizational databases to ensure data accuracy, security, and accessibility. They act as the bridge between raw data and meaningful insights for business decision-making.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Create, maintain, and optimize database structures to support business applications
  • Develop queries, stored procedures, and scripts for data extraction and reporting
  • Ensure data integrity, accuracy, and consistency across sytems
  • Implement backup, recovery, and replication strategies for critical databases
  • Conduct proactive monitoring and performance tuning at server, database and query levels
  • Identify bottlenecks and recommend improvements
  • Work closely with application developers, IT teams, and business stakeholders to align database solutions with organizational needs
  • Safeguard sensitive information through access controls and encryption
  • Ensure compliance with data governance and regulatory standards
  • Generate reports and dashboards to support business intelligence and decision-making

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Software Engineering, or equivalent relevant experience
  • Minimum 2 to 3 years of related work experience
  • Proficiency in SQL, SAS, or other database programming languages
  • Solid knowledge of relational and NoSQL databases (E.g., MySQL, PostgreSQL, MongoDB)
  • Knowledge of data modeling, ETL processes, and database performance tuning
  • Familiarity with cloud-based databases
  • Knowledge of apps in education is advantageous but not mandatory
  • Understanding of data governance, privacy laws, and compliance frameworks
  • Willingness and ability to quickly learn new languages, tools, and technologies
  • Strong technical expertise combined with planning, coordination, and communication skills
  • Project management capability, including defining project objectives, timelines, and deliverables
  • Problem-solving skills with demonstrated ability to analyze issues, develop solutions, and implement process improvements
  • Self-starter capable of managing multiple concurrent projects with strong organization and time management skills
  • Effective collaborator in a hands-on, team environment while taking ownership of tasks
  • Attention to detail, quality, and proficiency with productivity tools (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, MS Project, Jira/Confluence)
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills for technical and non-technical audiences
