Our client is a leading CPA firm based in San Francisco, California specializing in accounting, finance, HR, and tax consulting services tailored for seed and venture capital-funded startups. Serving over 500 startups across various industries-including information technology, media, retail, utilities, healthcare, manufacturing, and industrial sectors, the client has been instrumental in helping clients collectively raise over $10 billion in venture capital funding.
About the Role
We are looking for a detail-oriented and dependable Staff Accountant to support the accounting operations of our U.S.-based startup clients. In this remote role, you will be responsible for preparing financial reports, maintaining accurate general ledgers, managing daily accounting tasks, and assisting in month-end closings. Your role will be crucial in helping ensure financial accuracy, timeliness, and compliance with U.S. accounting standards (GAAP).
Work Schedule: Monday to Friday, At least 8 working hours between 7:00 AM to 6:00 PM US Central Time (8:00 PM to 7:00 AM PHT)
Work Set up: Fully Remote
What you'll do
Financial Reporting & Analysis
- Assist in preparing monthly financial statements (Balance Sheet, P&L, Cash Flow)
- Perform journal entries, reconciliations, and ensure accuracy in general ledger accounts
- Process and review accounts payable and receivable transactions
- Generate accurate financial reports and analyses for review by clients and senior staff
- Assist in preparing budgets, forecasts, and variance reports
- Maintain up-to-date records and ensure documentation supports reported balances
- Collaborate with Controllers on income/expense projections
- Complete reviews of your work and support quality checks for team members
- Address client queries and deliver timely updates as needed
- Support compliance with U.S. federal, state, and local accounting regulations
- Help ensure that bookkeeping and tax-related documentation are audit-ready
- Track time accurately across multiple client accounts
- Participate in internal training and team meetings
- Perform other business-related tasks as assigned by management
- Willingness to work core hours with a 4-hour overlap with Central Standard Time in the U.S.
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting required.
- 3+ years of corporate accounting experience.
- Experience working remotely for a U.S.-based accounting firm.
- Strong knowledge of finance, accounting, budgeting, cost accounting, and cost control principles.
- Strong experience in bank reconciliation is a non-negotiable requirement for the role.
- Advanced knowledge of bookkeeping and accounting best practices, U.S. GAAP, laws, standards, and state/national regulations.
- Solid experience with QuickBooks Online (certification a plus).
- Advanced proficiency with spreadsheet software (MS Excel and Google Sheets).
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Meticulous attention to detail with the ability to follow through and execute a high volume of nuanced tasks.
- Ability to work with a strong sense of urgency in a fast-paced setting with a wide variety of tasks.
- A passion for rapidly changing technology and software solutions that maximize efficiency and deliver firm-wide value.
- Certified Public Accountant
- Experience in startups, SaaS, or fast-paced client environments
- Familiarity with tools such as Expensify, , Gusto, Stripe, etc.
- Experience with platforms like Airtable, Loom, Salesforce, Box, and others
- Strong bank reconciliation experience
