Job Role: Full Stack Developer

Compensation range: $3,000 AUD - $3,500 AUD / Monthly

Engagement type: Independent Contractor Agreement

Work Schedule: This role is expected to align with the AU business hours (approx. 9 AM - 5 PM, Monday to Friday) for collaboration, but as a contractor, you'll have flexibility in how you manage your time.

Who The Client Is: The client is an Australia-based technology company that provides digital solutions designed to enhance safety, compliance, and operational efficiency in industrial environments. The business helps organizations modernize their safety management systems through smart automation, streamlined workflows, and data-driven insights.

Role Overview: We are looking for a Full Stack Developer to join our growing technology team. The ideal candidate is a hands-on, versatile engineer who can work across both the front-end and back-end stack to build scalable, high-performing web applications. You'll collaborate closely with product, design, and data teams to develop innovative solutions and deliver seamless digital experiences.

This role will suit someone who thrives in an agile, problem-solving environment, is passionate about clean and efficient code, and stays current with emerging technologies—particularly in the fields of AI integration and Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG).

Key Responsibilities: 

• Full Stack Development:
  Design, develop, and maintain robust, scalable web applications using and TypeScript on the front end, and and Python on the back end.
• System Architecture & Scalability:
  Lead and contribute to system architecture design with a strong focus on scalability, performance, and maintainability. Apply solid theoretical understanding to real-world implementations, including system design trade-offs and distributed systems.
• Real-Time & Backend Systems:
  Design and implement real-time connections (e.g., WebSockets, pub/sub patterns) and caching/message-broker solutions using tools such as Redis to support high-performance applications.
• API Development & Integration:
  Build, optimize, and integrate RESTful APIs that efficiently connect front-end and back-end systems.
• Database Management:
  Design, optimize, and maintain relational and/or NoSQL databases, ensuring data integrity, efficient querying, and scalable access patterns.
• AI & RAG Implementation (Preferred):
  Collaborate with AI or data teams to integrate Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) or other AI-driven features into production applications.
• Testing & Quality Assurance:
  Write and maintain unit, integration, and end-to-end tests to ensure high code quality, reliability, and long-term stability.
• Collaboration & Documentation:
  Work closely with designers, product managers, and engineers in an agile environment. Produce clear technical documentation for systems, APIs, and architectural decisions.
• Deployment & Maintenance:
  Deploy and maintain applications using CI/CD pipelines and cloud infrastructure (AWS, GCP, or Azure), with ongoing monitoring and performance optimization.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

Essential:

• 5+ years of experience as a Full Stack Developer or Software Engineer, with senior-level ownership of projects.
• Strong proficiency in React, TypeScript, , and Python.
• Solid practical experience combined with strong theoretical foundations in system architecture, distributed systems, and performance optimization.
• Hands-on experience with real-time systems, caching layers, and background processing (e.g., Redis, queues, pub/sub).
• Strong experience building and maintaining RESTful APIs.
• Proficiency with databases such as PostgreSQL, MySQL, and/or MongoDB.
• Deep understanding of HTML5, CSS3, and responsive UI design.
• Experience with Material UI or similar component libraries.
• Strong experience with Git, CI/CD pipelines, and agile development practices.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work autonomously.
• Strong communication skills and experience working with offshore or distributed teams.

Desirable / Nice to Have:

• Experience with RAG frameworks, AI integrations, or vector databases (e.g., LangChain, OpenAI API).
• Familiarity with Docker, Kubernetes, and modern DevOps practices.
• Experience with microservices or serverless architectures.
• Knowledge of authentication and security best practices (OAuth, JWT).
• Prior experience in startup or fast-paced product environments.

This is a remote role that will be set up as an independent contractor engagement.
