The On-Call Food Attendant supports food service operations during peak times, events, staff shortages, or special functions. This role is responsible for assisting with food service, maintaining cleanliness in dining areas, and ensuring guests or customers receive friendly, efficient service. The ideal candidate is flexible, service-oriented, and dependable for short-notice shifts.

Key Responsibilities

  • Set up food stations, buffets, or service lines according to event or service requirements.
  • Assist with portioning and serving food to guests or customers while maintaining presentation standards.
  • Replenish food, beverages, utensils, and supplies throughout service.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of dining, serving, and prep areas.
  • Clear tables, remove used dishes, and transport items to dishwashing or kitchen areas.
  • Assist with basic food preparation tasks (portioning, plating, refilling stations).
  • Monitor food temperatures and follow all food safety and sanitation guidelines.
  • Provide friendly, professional customer service and respond to guest questions or needs.
  • Support the food service team during events, banquets, or busy service periods.
  • Perform closing tasks such as cleaning service areas, wiping surfaces, and restocking.
  • Adapt to last-minute scheduling requests and varying work environments.
  • Ability to stand for long periods and walk frequently.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 30–40 lbs.
  • Frequent bending, reaching, and moving during service.
  • Able to work in warm, busy dining or event spaces.
  • On-call, flexible schedule based on operational needs.
  • May include mornings, weekends, holidays, and special events.

Qualifications

  • Experience in food service, catering, or hospitality preferred but not required.
  • Basic understanding of food safety and hygiene standards.
  • Strong customer service and communication skills.
  • Ability to multitask in fast-paced environments.
  • Dependable, punctual, and willing to take on-call shifts with short notice.
  • Food handler's permit/certification may be required.
