Job description:
The On-Call Line Cook supports kitchen operations on an as-needed basis, filling shifts during peak business periods, staff shortages, events, or emergencies. This role is responsible for preparing menu items according to restaurant standards, maintaining a clean and organized workstation, and ensuring food safety and quality at all times.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and cook food items following standardized recipes, portion guidelines, and presentation standards.
- Set up, stock, and maintain stations with necessary food and supplies.
- Maintain high sanitation and safety standards; follow all food handling procedures.
- Assist with prep work, including chopping, portioning, marinating, and labeling.
- Operate kitchen equipment safely and correctly (grill, fryer, oven, sauté station, etc.).
- Communicate with the kitchen team to ensure smooth service flow.
- Properly store leftovers and ensure all food products are labeled, rotated, and stored according to health codes.
- Clean and maintain work areas, equipment, and utensils before, during, and after service.
- Respond quickly to last-minute shift requests and adapt to varying work environments.
- Work efficiently in fast-paced conditions while maintaining accuracy and consistency.
- Stand and walk for extended periods.
- Can Lift and carry up to 40 lbs.
- Perform repetitive motions including bending, reaching, and lifting.
- On-call, variable hours depending on business needs.
Qualifications
- Previous experience as a line cook or relevant kitchen role preferred.
- Knowledge of basic cooking techniques, kitchen equipment, and food safety practices.
- Ability to follow directions, recipes, and safety guidelines.
- Strong time-management and multitasking skills.
- Reliable, punctual, and able to accept short-notice shifts.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-heat environment.
