oncall kitchen helper

The On-Call Kitchen Helper provides essential support to kitchen operations on an as-needed basis. This role assists with basic food preparation, dishwashing, cleaning, and maintaining kitchen organization during busy times, staff shortages, events, or emergencies. The ideal candidate is reliable, flexible, and able to quickly adapt to different kitchen environments.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist with basic food preparation, such as washing, peeling, chopping, and portioning ingredients.
• Maintain cleanliness of kitchen work areas, equipment, and utensils.
• Wash dishes, pots, pans, and kitchen tools following sanitation standards.
• Restock ingredients, disposables, and clean equipment as needed.
• Help receive and store deliveries; label and rotate inventory properly.
• Empty trash and recycling containers and maintain clean waste areas.
• Support line cooks, prep cooks, and chefs during meal preparation and service.
• Follow all food safety, health, and sanitation guidelines.
• Adapt to last-minute shift requests and varying kitchen duties.
• Perform additional tasks assigned by kitchen supervisors to ensure smooth operation.

Qualifications

• Prior kitchen or food service experience preferred but not required.
• Basic understanding of food safety and sanitation practices.
• Ability to follow instructions and work well in a team environment.
• Dependable and willing to take shifts on short notice.
• Strong work ethic and willingness to learn.
• Food handler's permit/certification (or ability to obtain one) may be required.
• Comfortable working in a fast-paced, hot kitchen environment.
• On-call with flexible, variable hours.
• May include mornings, weekends, and holidays depending on need.
