Position Overview: As a Freight Officer, you will be responsible for managing and coordinating the transportation and logistics of materials and equipment for our construction projects. The successful candidate will have strong organizational skills, a thorough understanding of freight processes, and the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously, including travel scheduling for logistics staff.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Logistics Management:
  • Coordinate the transportation of materials, equipment, and supplies to and from construction sites.
  • Develop and implement efficient logistics plans to ensure timely delivery and cost-effectiveness.
  • Vendor Coordination:
  • Liaise with freight forwarders, shipping companies, and other logistics providers to secure transportation services.
  • Negotiate contracts and rates with vendors to achieve favorable terms and cost savings.
  • Documentation:
  • Prepare and manage all necessary shipping and customs documentation, including bills of lading, invoices, and packing lists.
  • Ensure compliance with international and local shipping regulations and documentation requirements.
  • Inventory Control:
  • Monitor and manage inventory levels to ensure the availability of necessary materials and equipment.
  • Coordinate with procurement and project teams to align inventory levels with project schedules.
  • Tracking and Reporting:
  • Track shipments and provide regular updates to project managers and stakeholders on the status of deliveries.
  • Prepare and maintain accurate records of shipments, deliveries, and inventory.
  • Cost Management:
  • Monitor and control freight and logistics costs, ensuring adherence to budgetary constraints.
  • Identify and implement cost-saving opportunities without compromising service quality.
  • Problem Resolution:
  • Address and resolve any issues related to shipping delays, damages, or discrepancies.
  • Work with vendors and internal teams to implement corrective actions and prevent future issues.
  • Compliance:
  • Ensure all freight activities comply with relevant regulations, including health, safety, and environmental standards.
  • Stay updated on changes in regulations and industry best practices.
  • Travel Scheduling:
  • Coordinate travel arrangements for logistics staff, including booking flights, accommodations, and ground transportation.
  • Ensure travel schedules align with project timelines and logistics requirements.
  • Prepare travel itineraries and provide support for travel-related issues.
  • Fuel Monitoring:
  • Monitor and track fuel usage for transportation vehicles.
  • Implement measures to optimize fuel consumption and reduce costs.
  • Maintain accurate records of fuel expenditures and usage patterns.
