Vice President of Social Impact

POSITION SUMMARY

The Vice President of Social Impact serves as a key executive leader within the Mission Advancement Department, providing strategic direction and oversight for initiatives that advance the organization as a center for community well-being. The position oversees social impact leaders across multiple program areas including community engagement, social services, government partnerships, and community support programs. This leader ensures strategic alignment, fiscal accountability, and measurable impact across programs that strengthen belonging, health equity, civic participation, and economic stability for all community members. Reporting to the Chief Mission Advancement Officer, this role serves as a critical connector between community impact strategy, external partnerships, evaluation systems, and direct service delivery. The position ensures the organization continues to play a leading role in advancing equity, inclusion, and community well-being across all service locations and throughout the region, driving initiatives that transform lives and strengthen communities.

Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated success leading multi-department operations, cross-sector collaborations, and large-scale community initiatives focused on equity, civic engagement, and the social determinants of health.
  • Proven ability to develop, implement, and evaluate complex programs that achieve measurable impact and advance organizational strategy.
  • Experience in strategic planning, government relations, and fiscal management
  • Demonstrated record of fostering collaboration and creating inclusive work cultures.
  • Skilled in data-informed decision making, impact evaluation, and performance improvement systems.
  • Bachelor's degree required; master's degree in public administration, Social Work, Public Health, Public Policy, or a related field strongly preferred.

Specialized Skills:

  • Proven ability to lead multi-departmental teams and complex, multi-site operations.
  • Expertise in social determinants of health, civic engagement, and program evaluation.
  • Strong understanding of government and foundation grant management.
  • Experience with data-informed strategy, impact measurement, and continuous improvement systems.
  • Exceptional communication, partnership, and coalition-building abilities.
  • Demonstrated success in equity-centered leadership and organizational development.
  • Proficiency in public speaking, data storytelling, and representing large-scale community initiatives.
  • Other: Must be able to clear a criminal record background check (DOJ/FBI/CACI).

Work Environment/Minimum Physical Requirements

  • You must have physical, visual, and auditory ability to perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodations
  • Job is performed in a professional office environment with extended periods at computer workstation
  • Job is based out of YMCA center. Hybrid work options may be available
  • Extensive local travel required for donor meetings, corporate partnerships, and community engagement events. All work-related mileage reimbursed
  • Some evening and weekend work required for fundraising events and community functions

Principle Responsibilities:

Strategic Leadership and Vision

  • Provide strategic direction and alignment for the YMCA's Center for Community Well-Being framework across all 29 centers.
  • Collaborate with the Chief Mission Advancement Officer and CEO to ensure social impact priorities are embedded across all Association initiatives.
  • Integrate the YMCA's five Social Determinants of Health—Belonging, Education Equity, Civic Engagement, Economic Stability, and Health Equity—into operational and strategic plans.
  • Serve as a thought leader and spokesperson on social impact, equity, and civic engagement across Los Angeles County.

Division Oversight and Management

  • Provide executive supervision and direction to the Social Impact team members.
  • Foster collaboration across departments to maximize impact, efficiency, and accountability.
  • Develop annual work plans, performance goals, and reporting structures for all Social Impact departments.

Program and Fiscal Accountability

  • Oversee departmental budgets, contracts, and compliance for all government and foundation-funded initiatives.
  • Partner with Finance and Mission Advancement teams to secure sustainable funding for programs and staff.
  • Monitor grant performance metrics and ensure timely reporting and documentation.
  • Translate data and evaluation findings into actionable strategies and outcomes.

Community Partnerships and Advocacy

  • Build and strengthen relationships with government agencies, civic organizations, funders, and coalitions to advance community well-being.
  • Represent the YMCA in policy and advocacy efforts to remove barriers and improve access to resources for underserved populations.
  • Position the YMCA as a leading convener in volunteerism and civic engagement through the Together in Service collaborative of nonprofits.
  • Support storytelling, media engagement, and community outreach that demonstrate impact and build trust.

Team Development and Organizational Culture

  • Recruit, mentor, and develop a diverse and high-performing team of senior directors and program leaders.
  • Champion the YMCA's values of Caring, Honesty, Respect, and Responsibility throughout the Social Impact division.
  • Create professional development opportunities and promote succession planning to strengthen leadership pipelines.
  • Model inclusive leadership and foster a culture of belonging, collaboration, and innovation.
