  • Respond promptly to emergency calls to provide basic emergency care.
  • Assess the nature and extent of illness or injury in patients.
  • Perform life-saving interventions such as:
  • Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR)
  • Bleeding control
  • Airway management
  • Shock management
  • Basic splinting
  • Assist EMTs, paramedics, firefighters, or law enforcement personnel at emergency scenes.
  • Lift, move, and transport patients safely as needed.
  • Document patient information and care provided accurately and promptly.
  • Operate emergency response vehicles or assist drivers during transport.
  • Maintain medical equipment and restock supplies as necessary.

  • Follow all protocols and procedures as mandated by state and local EMS regulations.

  • Minimum Qualifications: Includes 40–80 hours of training.

  • Covers topics such as CPR, trauma care, patient assessment, airway management, bleeding control, and medical emergencies.
  • CPR Certification:
  • Usually CPR for Healthcare Providers or Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is required.
  • Pass Certification Exam:
  • Most commonly through the NREMT or a local certifying authority.
  • Includes both a cognitive (written) and a psychomotor (skills) exam.
