Job Description: First-Level Support Engineer (Network & Systems)

Position Overview

We are seeking a skilled First-Level Support Engineer to provide technical assistance and troubleshooting for firewall, endpoint security, wireless networks, and system administration tasks. The ideal candidate will have a strong foundation in IT infrastructure, excellent problem-solving skills, and the ability to communicate effectively with end-users.

Key Responsibilities

1. Firewall & Network Security Support

  • Monitor and manage firewall rules, policies, and configurations.
  • Assist in troubleshooting network connectivity and security issues.
  • Perform basic firewall administration tasks (e.g., user access, VPN setups).
  • Escalate complex security incidents to higher-level teams.

2. Endpoint Security & Device Management

  • Provide support for endpoint protection solutions (e.g., antivirus, EDR, patch management).
  • Assist in troubleshooting OS (Windows, macOS, Linux) and application issues.
  • Manage user access, permissions, and software installations.
  • Help enforce security policies on endpoints.

3. Wireless Network Support

  • Troubleshoot Wi-Fi connectivity issues (authentication, signal strength, interference).
  • Assist in configuring and maintaining wireless access points (WAPs).
  • Monitor wireless network performance and report anomalies.

4. System Administration Tasks

  • Perform basic Active Directory (AD) tasks (user account management, group policies).
  • Assist in server maintenance (Windows/Linux), including updates and backups.
  • Provide support for cloud services (Microsoft 365, Google Workspace, Azure AD).
  • Troubleshoot file and print server issues.

5. General IT Support & Documentation

  • Respond to IT support tickets via email, phone, or ticketing system.
  • Document troubleshooting steps and resolutions in the knowledge base.
  • Follow ITIL best practices for incident and request management.

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • Education: Diploma/Bachelor's in IT, Computer Science, or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • Experience: 1-3 years in IT support (firewall, networking, endpoint security, or system administration).
  • Technical Skills:
  • Basic knowledge of firewalls (e.g., Fortinet, Palo Alto, Cisco ASA).
  • Familiarity with endpoint security tools (CrowdStrike, SentinelOne, Microsoft Defender).
  • Understanding of wireless technologies (WPA2, WPA3, RADIUS).
  • Experience with Windows Server, Active Directory, and Office 365.
  • Basic scripting (PowerShell/Bash) is a plus.
  • Soft Skills:
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical abilities.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.

Preferred Certifications (Not Mandatory)

  • CompTIA Network+ / Security+
  • Microsoft Certified: Modern Desktop Administrator
  • Fortinet NSE 4 / Cisco CCNA (optional)
