About the Role

We're looking for a highly skilled Data Engineer to join a pioneering analytics and AI engineering team for a New Zealand-based company.

This role offers the opportunity to work on cutting-edge big data and cloud solutions that power insights used around the world.

You'll help design and build end-to-end data systems and services—from ingestion pipelines to APIs—using AWS, Java/Python, and modern data frameworks. You'll collaborate closely with talented engineers, data specialists, and product managers in a fast-paced and supportive environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain data pipelines and ETL/ELT processes for large-scale analytics and reporting systems.
  • Build and optimize data infrastructure for scalability, performance, and cost-efficiency using AWS and related tools.
  • Develop and maintain RESTful APIs and data services to support analytics platforms.
  • Work with cross-functional teams to translate business requirements into robust data-driven software solutions.
  • Implement Infrastructure as Code (Terraform) and ensure automation through CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions).
  • Collaborate with product and operations teams to ensure high availability, security, and data quality across environments.
  • Support ongoing improvements, documentation, and adherence to best practices in software and data engineering.

Qualifications

  • 3+ years of experience in data engineering or software development roles.
  • Proficiency in AWS services (e.g., Glue, Lambda, Kinesis, EMR, Redshift) and cloud-native architectures.
  • Strong programming experience in Java and/or Python.
  • Solid background in SQL, data modeling, and working with structured/unstructured data.
  • Experience with streaming and batch data pipelines (e.g., Kafka, Flink, Spark).
  • Familiarity with Terraform, Docker, and microservices architecture.
  • Knowledge of CI/CD, testing frameworks, and Git-based workflows.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills; proactive and detail-oriented.
