Position Summary

The Quality Engineer will be responsible for ensuring that all plastic injection molded parts meet customer specifications, regulatory requirements, and company quality standards. This role involves implementing quality assurance processes, conducting root cause analysis, and driving continuous improvement initiatives to maintain high levels of product quality and manufacturing efficiency.

Key Responsibilities

Quality Assurance & Control

  • Develop, implement, and maintain quality control systems for injection molding processes.
  • Conduct inspections and audits of incoming materials, in-process production, and finished goods.
  • Approve first article inspections (FAI), PPAP submissions, and control plans.
  • Monitor process capability (Cp, Cpk) and take corrective action when trends deviate from control limits.

Root Cause Analysis & Problem Solving

  • Lead investigations into customer complaints and nonconformances.
  • Apply root cause analysis tools (5 Whys, Fishbone Diagram, DMAIC) to determine and eliminate sources of defects.
  • Work with production and engineering teams to implement effective corrective and preventive actions (CAPA).

Documentation & Compliance

  • Prepare and maintain quality documentation such as control plans, FMEAs, inspection records, and validation reports.
  • Ensure compliance with ISO 9001, IATF 16949, or other applicable quality management systems.
  • Support audits (internal, customer, and regulatory).

Continuous Improvement

  • Analyze quality data and trends to identify improvement opportunities in molding, assembly, and packaging processes.
  • Participate in lean manufacturing and Six Sigma initiatives.
  • Support process validation and capability studies for new tools, molds, and materials.

Cross-functional Collaboration

  • Partner with design, tooling, and production teams to ensure manufacturability and quality are considered during product development.
  • Communicate effectively with suppliers and customers regarding quality requirements and performance.

Qualifications & Skills

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Plastics Engineering, or a related field.

Experience:

  • 3+ years of experience in quality engineering within a plastic injection molding environment.
  • Hands-on experience with statistical process control (SPC), PPAP, FMEA.

Skills:

  • Strong understanding of quality systems (ISO 9001, IATF 16949 preferred).
  • Proficiency in measurement systems (CMM, calipers, micrometers, optical comparators).
  • Excellent analytical, communication, and documentation skills.
  • Familiarity with Minitab or other statistical analysis software.
  • Green Belt or Black Belt certification is a plus.
