Overview:

We are seeking a Greybox Level Designer to build prototype environments for our upcoming mech game project. This role focuses on creating greybox maps that test scale, navigation, and combat flow for large mech units. The designer will work closely with the systems and combat teams to ensure environments support core gameplay and enhance the "feel" of piloting a mech.

Responsibilities:

  • Build greybox (blockout) levels in-engine (Unity/Unreal) to test mech movement, combat, and scale.

  • Prototype environments such as urban battlefields, open plains, industrial zones, and vertical arenas.

  • Collaborate with designers and programmers to validate traversal mechanics (dashing, boosting, jumping).

  • Design spaces that encourage strategic combat: cover, sightlines, elevation, chokepoints.

  • Iterate on feedback from playtests to refine layouts.

  • Document findings and provide recommendations for environment art direction.

Qualifications:

  • Experience designing levels or prototypes in a game engine (Unity or Unreal).

  • Strong understanding of level flow, combat arenas, and player navigation.

  • Ability to design for large-scale characters/vehicles (mech, tank, or vehicle experience a plus).

  • Comfortable working with placeholder assets and rapid iteration.

  • Good communication and collaboration skills.

Nice-to-Have:

  • Prior experience with mech, vehicle, or large-character games.

  • Knowledge of multiplayer map design principles.

  • Familiarity with environment art pipelines (terrain sculpting, modular kits).
