The Motor pool Mechanic is responsible for inspecting, maintaining, and repairing a wide variety of vehicles and equipment used by the organization. This includes preventive maintenance and corrective repairs to ensure the fleet is safe, operational, and compliant with applicable regulations. The role demands mechanical expertise, attention to detail, and the ability to work under minimal supervision.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Vehicle Maintenance and Repairs:

  • Conduct routine preventive maintenance on fleet vehicles (e.g., oil changes, filter replacements, fluid checks).

  • Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems in vehicles and equipment.

  • Repair and replace faulty parts including brakes, engines, transmissions, belts, and wiring.

2. Inspection and Diagnostics:

  • Perform thorough inspections to detect wear, damage, or other issues.

  • Use diagnostic tools and computerized systems to troubleshoot problems.

  • Conduct road tests to verify repairs and overall vehicle performance.

3. Recordkeeping and Documentation:

  • Maintain accurate records of all services performed.

  • Update maintenance logs and ensure vehicles meet inspection standards.

  • Prepare reports on mechanical issues and recommended solutions.

4. Parts and Inventory Management:

  • Assist in the requisition and inventory of spare parts and tools.

  • Identify parts needed for repairs and ensure timely procurement.

5. Safety and Compliance:

  • Follow workplace safety standards and procedures at all times.

  • Ensure all repairs comply with company policies and legal regulations.

  • Report hazards and unsafe conditions immediately.

6. Support Duties:

  • Assist with vehicle deployment, fueling, and basic cleaning when necessary.

  • Respond to emergency vehicle breakdowns or service calls.

  • Support other mechanics or technicians during heavy repair job

Qualifications:

  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent; technical training in automotive repair, diesel mechanics, or a related field is highly preferred.

  • Experience: Minimum of 2 years of experience in automotive or heavy vehicle repair.

  • Other Skills:

    • Proficiency in vehicle diagnostics, repair techniques, and preventive maintenance.

    • Strong knowledge of vehicle systems, including engine, transmission, hydraulic, braking, suspension, and electrical systems.

    • Ability to read technical manuals, schematics, and repair guidelines.

    • Strong leadership and team management skills, with effective communication abilities.
