What we do:

The Plastic Flamingo, aka The Plaf, is a social enterprise with a pilot project in the Philippines (Manila).

Our core mission is to tackle marine plastic pollution by collecting and recycling ocean-bound plastic waste in emerging countries with maximum social impact.

We started the venture in 2018 and we are now managing a plastic collection network of about 300 collection points in Metro Manila (schools, villages, condominiums, offices, stores, etc.) and have already collected more than 1,000 Tons of plastic waste.

We also developed a large range of offers for corporations willing to offset their plastic footprint. We are one of the very few pioneer companies in the world inventing and spreading the plastic compensation concept (EPR & CSR).

We started recycling plastic waste in a demo facility in 2020 and launched in 2023 a full size facility in Muntinlupa (South of Metro Manila).

We produce 100% recycled plastic eco-boards (compression molding process) and rHDPE pellets. We also have a carpentry workshop, where we design and manufacture various products made with our eco-boards, especially furniture pieces.

Job Summary:

The Maintenance Technician is responsible for the upkeep, repair, and optimal operation of all production and manufacturing equipment at The Plastic Flamingo facility. This role requires a strong combination of mechanical, electrical, and plastic manufacturing expertise to ensure minimal downtime, maintain safety standards, and support sustainable manufacturing processes.

Key Responsibilities:

• Perform regular maintenance and repair of mechanical and electrical systems including granulators, pelletizers, shredders, molding machines, and ancillary production equipment.
• Troubleshoot electrical faults, perform wiring repairs, and maintain control panels, automation systems, and sensors associated with plastic manufacturing equipment.
• Conduct routine inspections, calibrations, and preventive maintenance for machinery to maintain production efficiency and product quality.
• Maintain calibration records for tools, instruments, and measuring devices to ensure accurate process controls.
• Diagnose and resolve issues involving hydraulic and pneumatic systems used in the production line.
• Prepare and execute preventive maintenance schedules; keep detailed logs of maintenance activities and parts inventory.
• Collaborate closely with production, safety, and procurement teams to coordinate machine downtime, schedule repairs, and source replacement parts timely.
• Implement and recommend continuous improvements to machinery performance, energy efficiency, and operational safety.
• Provide hands-on training to operators on equipment care, safety, and basic troubleshooting techniques.
• Respond promptly to emergency breakdowns to minimize production losses.
• Ensure compliance with safety, environmental, and quality standards at all times.
• Support documentation of operational manuals, maintenance protocols, and safety practices.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree or technical diploma in Engineering (Electrical, Mechanical) or Industrial Maintenance; certifications related to plastics manufacturing are a plus.
• Minimum 3 years' experience in maintenance roles within plastics recycling or manufacturing industries, with demonstrated expertise in electrical, mechanical, and hydraulic systems.
• Strong knowledge of electrical systems, including motor control, PLCs, and electrical schematics.
• Experience maintaining plastic manufacturing equipment such as granulators, pelletizers, injection or compression molding machines.
• Skilled at reading and interpreting technical manuals, mechanical drawings, and electrical diagrams.
• Excellent troubleshooting skills for mechanical and electrical faults in a manufacturing environment.
• Adept in preventive maintenance planning and execution, equipment calibration, and parts management.
• Physically capable of working onsite with ability to climb, lift, and engage in hands-on repair work safely.

Work Environment:

• The Technician will work onsite at our manufacturing facility in Muntinlupa, Metro Manila, primarily around heavy machinery and production equipment. Work schedule is Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, with occasional overtime for urgent repairs. Strict adherence to safety protocols and coordination with cross-functional teams are required.
