A merchandising planning and control supervisor is responsible for aligning a company's financial goals with its inventory, pricing, and promotional strategies. This role is vital for maximizing sales and profitability while minimizing inventory risk. Primary responsibilitiesPlanning

  • Create seasonal and annual plans: Develop strategic merchandise plans that forecast sales, set budgets for inventory investment (Open-to-Buy), and determine key performance indicators (KPIs).
  • Analyze sales trends: Research and interpret historical sales data, market trends, and customer behavior to inform planning decisions and identify risks and opportunities.
  • Forecast demand: Work with buyers and marketing teams to project customer demand for products, ensuring accurate inventory levels.
  • Develop assortment plans: Help build a balanced product assortment by brand, category, and price point, ensuring it aligns with financial targets and customer expectations.
  • Establish pricing strategies: Recommend and plan pricing strategies, markdowns, and promotional activities to optimize margins and manage inventory.

Controlling

  • Manage inventory: Monitor stock levels and flow of goods to prevent stockouts and overstock situations, coordinating with supply chain and allocation teams.
  • Analyze performance: Produce and review weekly and monthly reports on key metrics like sales, margin, and stock turn. Present actionable insights and recommendations to senior leadership.
  • Manage Open-to-Buy (OTB): Control the purchasing budget throughout the season by evaluating and adjusting spending based on real-time sales and inventory performance.
  • Coordinate with suppliers and logistics: Ensure timely deliveries and resolve any supply chain issues with vendors and distribution centers.
  • Manage budgets: Oversee the merchandising budget and ensure all activities align with financial targets.

Required skills and qualifications

  • Analytical and quantitative abilities: Strong skills in data analysis, financial modeling, and forecasting are essential.
  • Software proficiency: Experience with merchandise planning software (e.g., JDA Enterprise Planning Suite, Oracle Retail) and advanced Excel capabilities.
  • Business acumen: A deep understanding of retail, market trends, and consumer behavior.
  • Communication and leadership: The ability to communicate complex data clearly, collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams, and influence key stakeholders.
  • Education and experience: A bachelor's degree in business, merchandising, or a related field is typically required, along with experience in retail planning or buying.

Job Type: Full-time
