The
Project Accountant
will support Meralco PowerGen's power plant development and execution projects by providing accurate project cost monitoring, reporting, and financial analysis. This role bridges finance and project teams, ensuring that technical project data is translated into clear financial insights and that financial considerations are well-integrated into project decision-making.

The ideal candidate is a qualified accountant with proven project experience in large-scale infrastructure or power generation (preferably thermal) and the ability to effectively "interpret" between finance and project stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

Cost Monitoring & Control

  • Implement and maintain project cost control systems aligned with company and project requirements.
  • Track commitments, expenditures, forecasts, and variances against approved budgets.
  • Monitor project cash flow and funding requirements, ensuring alignment with project schedules and milestones.

Reporting & Analysis

  • Prepare accurate and timely cost reports, forecasts, and variance analyses for the Project Controls Lead and management.
  • Consolidate project cost data and present financial status updates during project reviews.
  • Support risk analysis by identifying potential cost overruns and recommending mitigation strategies.

Stakeholder Communication & Coordination

  • Act as the key link between Finance and Project teams—translating technical project progress into financial terms and vice versa.
  • Collaborate with procurement, contracts, engineering, and construction teams to ensure proper cost coding, invoice validation, and accruals.
  • Liaise with auditors and regulatory bodies as needed for project-related financial matters.

Project Development & Execution Support

  • Contribute to feasibility studies and financial modeling for new projects.
  • Support the preparation of capital expenditure requests and project funding submissions.
  • Assist in evaluating contractor and vendor claims from a cost and contractual perspective.

Qualifications

Education & Certification

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or equivalent professional qualification preferred but not required.

Experience

  • Minimum 3 years' relevant experience as a project accountant, cost controller, or similar role in large-scale infrastructure projects.
  • Demonstrated experience in Project Development and Execution within the
    energy
    sector is highly preferred but not required.
  • Proven track record in cost control, forecasting, and project reporting.

Skills & Competencies

  • Strong ability to communicate effectively with both technical and finance teams.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills.
  • High proficiency in MS Excel and ERP/project cost control software.
  • Strong attention to detail while managing multiple priorities under tight deadlines.
