We are currently working with a fast-growing regional regulatory technology startup helping Banks & Financial Institution to navigate compliance, regulatory requirements, and risk management through innovative solutions. With operations spanning Southeast Asia, India, and Australia, the firm partner with clients to simplify complex regulatory landscapes through our regulatory product.

Role Overview

We are seeking an experienced
Regional Head of Legal
to serve as the primary legal counsel for our operations in Southeast Asia, India, and Australia. This is an individual contributor role, reporting directly to the CEO, and will be responsible for managing all legal matters, including commercial negotiations, contract review, and labor law compliance across the region.

The ideal candidate will be comfortable operating in a dynamic, fast-paced startup environment and providing strategic legal guidance that balances risk management with business objectives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage all legal matters for the company across Southeast Asia, India, and Australia.
  • Draft, review, and negotiate a variety of commercial agreements, including client contracts, vendor agreements, partnership deals, and licensing arrangements.
  • Advise leadership on legal risks, compliance issues, and corporate governance matters.
  • Ensure compliance with labor laws and employment regulations across multiple jurisdictions, working closely with HR on policies, employment agreements, and dispute resolution.
  • Support fundraising, investment, and corporate structuring activities from a legal standpoint.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (Sales, Operations, HR, Product) to provide practical legal solutions to business challenges.
  • Stay updated on relevant regulatory and legal developments in the region, especially those impacting technology and compliance sectors.
  • Manage relationships with external legal counsel in different jurisdictions when required.

Requirements

  • Law degree from a reputable institution; bar admission in the Philippines or another Southeast Asian jurisdiction.
  • Minimum 8+ years of post-qualification legal experience, with at least 3 years in a senior or regional role.
  • Proven track record in commercial contract negotiations and corporate law.
  • Strong understanding of labor laws in Southeast Asia; exposure to India and/or Australia employment law is an advantage.
  • Experience working in technology, fintech, compliance, or startup environments preferred.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Ability to work independently and make sound legal decisions in a fast-paced environment.
