The General Accountant will oversee the financial activities and reporting of the company, ensuring accurate and timely preparation of financial statements, compliance with accounting standards, and effective monitoring of accounts related to freight forwarding, logistics operations, and transport services.

This role supports the organization in maintaining sound financial health, managing cost efficiency, and ensuring integrity in all financial transactions.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

1. General Accounting & Reporting

  • Prepares and maintains accurate general ledger (GL) records, journal entries, and account reconciliations.
  • Generates monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, ensuring alignment with accounting policies and standards (PH GAAP / IFRS).
  • Ensures timely month-end and year-end closing processes.
  • Monitors and analyzes accounting data to identify discrepancies or potential areas of improvement.

2. Accounts Payable & Receivable

  • Reviews and processes vendor invoices, freight bills, agent charges, and supplier payments, ensuring accuracy and proper documentation.
  • Reconciles accounts payable and accounts receivable related to freight and logistics transactions.
  • Coordinates with operations and billing teams for proper recognition of revenue and expenses.

3. Cost & Revenue Accounting

  • Monitors freight revenues, transportation costs, handling fees, brokerage, warehousing, and customs expenses.
  • Ensures proper cost allocation per shipment, client, or business unit to maintain profitability visibility.
  • Validates billing statements, shipment accruals, and intercompany transactions.

4. Taxation & Compliance

  • Prepares and files BIR returns (VAT, EWT, Income Tax, etc.) and ensures compliance with all government regulations.
  • Coordinates with external auditors and government agencies during audits or reporting periods.
  • Maintains compliance with company policies, accounting standards, and local statutory requirements.

5. Budgeting & Financial Analysis

  • Assists in the preparation of annual budgets and forecasts, monitoring variances versus actual performance.
  • Provides analytical reports on cost efficiency, cash flow, and profit margins to support management decisions.
  • Participates in financial planning discussions and recommends strategies to optimize operational spending.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's Degree in Accountancy, Finance, or related field.
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) is an advantage but not required.
  • At least 3–5 years of solid accounting experience, preferably in freight forwarding, logistics, shipping, or transportation industry.
  • Strong knowledge of PH GAAP, BIR reporting, and logistics accounting processes.
  • Hands-on experience with ERP systems (SAP, QuickBooks, or equivalent).
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel and financial reporting tools.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail, confidentiality, and ability to work under deadlines.
