Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Account Director to lead one of our key Japanese client accounts.

This pivotal role combines business leadership, strategic brand management, and creative excellence.

The successful candidate will manage senior client relationships, guide cross-functional teams, and drive innovative campaigns that connect deeply with Japanese audiences.


Key Responsibilities

Client Partnership & Growth

  • Serve as the senior agency lead for the Japanese account, building trusted relationships with stakeholders at all levels.
  • Deeply understand the client's brand, business objectives, and market challenges, and translate them into actionable creative strategies.
  • Proactively identify growth opportunities through new campaigns, projects, and integrated marketing initiatives.

Strategic & Creative Leadership

  • Collaborate with Strategy and Creative Directors to craft impactful brand and campaign strategies.
  • Ensure all creative work is culturally relevant, resonates with Japanese consumers, and aligns with client goals.
  • Champion innovative ideas while maintaining strategic and business integrity.

Campaign Management

  • Oversee the development and execution of integrated campaigns across multiple platforms (TV, digital, social, OOH, experiential, etc.).
  • Manage timelines, budgets, and resources to deliver exceptional work on time and within scope.
  • Anticipate client needs and address issues swiftly to maintain trust and momentum.

Team Leadership

  • Lead, mentor, and inspire an account management team to achieve high performance.
  • Act as the bridge between local teams in Japan and global/regional agency counterparts.
  • Promote best practices in client servicing, project delivery, and team collaboration.

Desired Skills and Experience

Must Have:

  • Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Advertising, Communications, or related field
  • Minimum 10 years of account management experience in an advertising or creative agency
  • Proven record in leading major brand campaigns and managing high-profile clients
  • Strong understanding of Japanese consumer culture, media landscape, and business practices
  • Exceptional communication and presentation skills in English
  • Demonstrated leadership, problem-solving, and negotiation abilities
  • Experience managing complex, multi-market campaigns

Preferred:

  • Proficiency in Japanese (spoken and written) but not required
  • Experience working with global brands in FMCG, tech, automotive, or luxury sectors
  • Expertise in digital-first and integrated marketing campaigns
  • Strong financial management and account profitability skills
  • Ability to work effectively across cultures and time zones
