As a Debt Collection Specialist, you will be responsible for managing delinquent accounts and helping recover outstanding payments while maintaining compliance with relevant laws and standards. You'll handle inbound and outbound communication with debtors, negotiate payment arrangements, update account records, and work with internal teams to resolve disputes or discrepancies. This role requires a strong customer-service mindset, excellent attention to detail, and a results-driven attitude.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor and follow up on overdue accounts or unpaid balances.
  • Make outbound calls to debtors to negotiate and arrange payment plans.
  • Handle inbound collection calls and respond to queries about outstanding debt.
  • Document all contact attempts, payment arrangements, disputes, and collection outcomes.
  • Investigate and resolve account discrepancies, billing issues, or disputes.
  • Meet collection targets or metrics as set by the client or management.
  • Follow existing company policies and comply with applicable laws/regulations (e.g. debt collection rules).
  • Coordinate with other internal teams (e.g. finance, legal) regarding escalations or account issues.

Qualifications:

  • Prior experience in collections, credit / debt recovery or call-center / BPO environment is required.
  • Excellent oral and written English communication skills.
  • Negotiation skills and ability to persuade or influence effectively.
  • Basic computer skills; familiarity with MS Office, databases or collection software.
  • Ability to work with targets / performance metrics.
  • Strong attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and capacity to manage stress or difficult calls.
