Role Overview:
The Tax Officer is responsible for ensuring that all tax-related filings, reports, and payments are completed accurately and submitted within required deadlines. This role involves comprehensive tax compliance work, analytical review of financial data, coordination with regulatory bodies, and support in tax planning and audit activities.
Primary Duties & Responsibilities
Tax Preparation & Compliance
- Prepare, file, and remit accurate tax returns—AFS/ITR, VAT, GST, withholding taxes (Compensation, EWT, FWT), and other statutory filings—on a monthly, quarterly, and annual basis.
- Submit mandatory BIR reports including Alphalists, EWT/FWT summaries, and VAT Sales & Purchases Relief.
- Review financial documents and transactions to determine correct tax liabilities.
- Maintain complete and organized documentation supporting all tax filings.
Systems & Regulatory Knowledge
- Utilize BIR systems such as eFPS, eAFS, and other digital filing tools for tax submissions.
- Stay well-informed about new BIR issuances, tax regulations, and compliance updates, assessing their impact on the company.
Audit & Risk Management
- Assist in internal and external tax audits by preparing schedules, responding to queries, and ensuring compliance readiness.
- Identify tax risk areas through periodic internal reviews and recommend corrective actions.
Tax Strategy & Collaboration
- Support the development of tax-efficient strategies and process improvements.
- Coordinate with the Senior Finance Supervisor, legal team, consultants, and auditors during tax planning, reviews, and compliance processes.
Advanced Responsibilities
- Oversee the preparation of federal, state, local, and international tax returns as applicable.
- Analyze financial data to uncover opportunities for tax savings and operational improvements.
- Conduct in-depth research on evolving tax laws and provide guidance on implications for the company.
- Prepare and deliver comprehensive tax reports and briefings for senior management.
- Implement best practices to enhance the efficiency and accuracy of tax processes.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Taxation, or a related discipline.
- At least 3–5 years of experience in tax compliance or advisory work.
- Prior audit experience (minimum 3 years) with a top 30 audit firm is an advantage.
- Strong knowledge of tax regulations, tax accounting principles, and various tax return filings.
- Proficiency in tax software and MS Excel.
- Exceptional analytical skills with strong attention to detail.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving abilities.
- Proven experience as a Tax Officer or similar role.
- Ability to meet deadlines, manage multiple priorities, and build strong client or stakeholder relationships.
- Demonstrated leadership skills and the ability to manage and mentor team members.
