designs, develops, and optimizes products and processes, focusing on the creation of components and structures. Key responsibilities include using CAD software for designs, creating technical documentation like blueprints and BOMs, specifying materials and manufacturing processes, and collaborating with manufacturing teams to ensure products are manufacturable, cost-effective, and meet quality standards. This role involves a mix of design, analysis, testing, and project support to bring concepts from initial idea to production.

Core responsibilities

  • Design and development: Create 3D models, 2D drawings, and product designs using computer-aided design (CAD) software, such as SolidWorks, to produce sheet metal or other fabricated products.
  • Process optimization: Identify and fix deficiencies in mechanical processes, develop improvements, and design fabrication processes and schedules.
  • Analysis and testing: Conduct feasibility studies, simulations, and failure analyses; test and validate prototypes to ensure they meet design specifications.
  • Technical documentation: Develop and maintain comprehensive documentation, including bills of materials (BOMs), technical drawings, and critical analysis reports.
  • Collaboration: Work with cross-functional teams, including project managers, manufacturing, quality assurance, and procurement, to ensure production readiness and manage project timelines.
  • Quality and compliance: Ensure all designs and fabricated products comply with safety, regulatory, and quality standards.
  • Material and process specification: Select appropriate materials and specify the necessary fabrication processes, tolerances, and quality checks for production.
  • Problem-solving: Diagnose and troubleshoot issues in equipment and processes, and provide recommendations for remedies.
