Quezon City, National Capital Region, Philippines Center for Energy, Ecology, and Development (CEED) Full time $104,000 - $130,878 per year

The Paralegal will mainly conduct legal and policy research on the following topics: the environment, the integrity of ecosystems, the energy and power sector, and the country's development path. He/she will also draft legal memoranda, assist in drafting pleadings, briefers, reports, and studies on key priority issues. He/she shall report to the lawyers, the heads of the legal team, and the thematic work lead, should he/she be assigned to a thematic team.

Responsibilities

1.    Research and policy work

a.    Monitor latest developments in the country's energy sector, ecology, and development path; and,

b.    Research and draft policy briefers, discussion papers, legal memoranda, and position papers on these topics.

2.    Legal work

a.    Compile laws, rules, and jurisprudence relevant to ongoing cases, and other key priority issues of CEED;

b.    Conduct legal research and draft legal memoranda;

c.    Draft legal briefs, memoranda, and case summaries;

d.    Assist in drafting, proofreading, and finalizing pleadings, briefers, reports, and studies;

e.    Assist in the monitoring and managing of ongoing cases;

f.     File and serve pleadings;

g.    Liaise with government offices, partner organizations and communities; and,

h.    Oversee proper office filing of legal documents.

Qualifications

1.    Excellent command of English and Tagalog;

2.    Excellent oral and written communication skills;

3.    Strong analytical thinking;

4.    Demonstrable experience in conducting researches (highly regarded);

5.    Knowledge and experience in legal research, preferably with a bachelor's degree in legal management, bachelor of laws or juris doctor degree, currently taking up law, or has at least 1 year experience as a paralegal (highly regarded);

6.    Ability to present findings in a variety of formats to a range of stakeholders through strong written and verbal communication; and,

7.    Punctuality, intellectual curiosity, willingness to take initiative, and willingness to work under pressure to meet deadlines (highly advantageous).
