A Dialysis Technician is responsible for preparing and operating dialysis machines, monitoring patients during treatment, and maintaining the dialysis unit's cleanliness and functionality. They work closely with nurses and doctors to ensure patients receive safe and effective dialysis.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Machine Preparation: Assembling and calibrating dialysis machines, ensuring they are clean and functioning properly before treatment.
  • Patient Care: Monitoring patient vitals, including weight, blood pressure, and pulse, during dialysis treatment.
  • Treatment Administration: Connecting patients to dialysis machines, adjusting settings, and monitoring for complications.
  • Equipment Maintenance: Performing routine maintenance, repairs, and cleaning of dialysis machines and equipment.
  • Patient Education: Explaining the dialysis process to patients and their families, and reinforcing patient education.
  • Documentation: Recording patient data and treatment events.

SPECIFIC DUTIES:

  • Setting up the Dialysis Machine: Attaching dialyzers and tubing, mixing dialysate, and priming the machine.
  • Preparing the Patient: Taking vital signs, ensuring the patient is comfortable, and preparing the access site for dialysis.
  • Monitoring the Patient: Observing the patient for any signs of medical emergencies, such as muscle cramps, nausea, or hypotension.
  • Adjusting Treatment Settings: Making necessary adjustments to the machine settings, such as fluid removal or drug administration, according to the doctor's orders.
  • Cleaning and Disinfecting Equipment: Rinsing and disinfecting machines and equipment after each treatment

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Graduate of any 4 Year course, Medical course an advantage
  • Must have certificate training in Dialysis Technology
  • At least 1 Year relevant experience in Clinic or Hospital setting
