Senior Structural Engineer, Bridges and Civil Structures

The Senior Structural Engineer is responsible for providing technical expertise on a range of projects. Managing a variety of small to medium-sized projects and produce high-quality reports and maintaining the existing client base.

Main Responsibilities include:

• Comply with all role-specific Safety, Health, Environment, & Quality (SHEQ) obligations
• Comply with the WSP OH&S System and development of site-specific health and safety plans as well as WSP Quality System and Code of Ethics.
• Represent WSP to a professional standard at all times.
• Manage and monitor the technical quality of work performed by the team and promote a culture of technical excellence within the team.
• Review or verify and interpret engineering drawings and reports and provide technical input into a diverse range of projects and ensure that work produced complies with quality system and client requirements
• Undertakes a variety of projects, including bridges, tunnels, rail, and miscellaneous steel and concrete structures
• Manages the day-to-day tasks of a number of projects of varying complexity and size.
• May function as a Project Manager / Task Leader on specific projects as assigned.
• Liaises with other disciplines in report and proposal preparation.
• Working knowledge of structural analysis programs and using these to deliver bridge and other transport structures
• Working knowledge of 3D modelling tools to deliver projects in the Digital Engineering Framework
• Assisting in the preparation of specifications, proposals, and other documentation under supervision.
• Ability to utilise a variety of standard engineering methods and techniques in problem solving.
• Develop appropriate time management skills and flexibility to allow for the management of a varying workload
• Reviews the work of engineers, drafters, and others who assist in specific assignments.
• Carry out cross-discipline reviews, constructability checks, and clash detection reviews.
• Provides mentoring and guidance in technical and project delivery to other Structural Engineers in the team
• Keeps abreast of new developments and methods relevant to area of expertise.
• Adheres to prescribed Design Standards and Design Quality Procedures.
• Conscientiously work toward the group's objectives and adhere to the company's policy
• Performs tasks assigned by Bridges Discipline Lead/ Regional Executive in line with his experience, discipline, or qualifications.

Qualifications (minimum and desirable):

• Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or Civil Engineering, or any equivalent experience
• Preferably a Licensed Civil Engineer
• Member of chartered status of CPENG (Desired)

Experience, Capabilities & Competencies:

• At least eight (8) years relevant work experience.
• Proven structural design experience for bridges, ground support, tunnel linings, and/or retaining walls.
• Proven knowledge in using software for structural analysis e.g. MIDAS Civil, Autodesk Structural Bridge Design (ASBD), STAAD, SPACE GASS or similar software packages e.g. Microstran, CSI Bridge
• Proficiency in Projectwise, Blue Beam Revu, AutoCAD/Microstation/Revit, MS Word and MS Excel is also expected.
• Experience in monitoring and managing the scope of multiple projects of varying complexity and size.
• Competent and experienced in providing technical expertise across a broad range of projects without close supervision
• Experienced in managing risk on substantial projects.
• Delivered best client outcomes/options which have saved the client cost and/or time.
• Experience in monitoring and managing the scope of multiple projects of varying complexity and size
• Demonstrated ability to apply safety in design processes on projects.
• Knowledgeable of local and/or international design standards. Preferably with experience on Australian projects
• Good both written and verbal communication skills.
