Your Role:

As a Clinical Documentation Improvement (CDI) Supervisor, you will:

• Supervise and support CDI staff, including hiring, onboarding, scheduling, and performance management.
• Monitor productivity, accuracy, and operational metrics to ensure optimal team performance.
• Conduct documentation audits and accuracy reviews to maintain compliance with ICD-10, CPT/HCPCS, and CMS/OIG regulations.
• Address documentation and coding-related denials and coordinate with billing and A/R teams to identify and resolve root causes.
• Stay current with documentation and coding updates and ensure staff are informed of regulatory changes.
• Maintain and update documentation and coding policies and procedures to align with compliant and accepted medical coding practices.
• Present team performance reports, KPIs, and improvement plans during operations meetings.
• Collaborate with HIM, Revenue Integrity, Coding, Billing, and Clinical departments to ensure clean claim generation and accurate coding.
• Coordinate with IT on encoder, EHR, and CDI system optimization.
• Provide ongoing CDI education and feedback on audit findings, coding updates, and documentation best practices.
• Mentor CDI specialists to support professional development and career growth.
• Work closely with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to ensure timely, accurate, and complete documentation that reflects patient care.

What You Need:

Non-negotiables

• Bachelor of Science in Nursing
• Active PHRN or USRN license
• Minimum of 2 years inpatient CDI supervisory experience
• At least 2 years of acute care clinical experience in a hospital setting (ICU or Med/Surg preferred)
• CCDS (Certified Clinical Documentation Specialist), CDIP (Certified Documentation Improvement Practitioner), or CCS (Certified Coding Specialist)
• Working knowledge of ICD-10-CM/PCS coding, MS-DRG methodology, and risk adjustment
• Experience with EMR systems such as Epic, Cerner, or Meditech

Preferred skills/expertise

• Master's degree or credential in business, healthcare, or related field
• Experience with CDI or coding technologies
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, SharePoint)
• Proven leadership experience in team management, coaching, and performance development
• Ability to lead teams, set direction, and manage deliverables independently
• Strong analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to create impactful presentations
• High attention to detail, strong follow-through, and independent decision-making ability
• Professional interpersonal skills and demonstrated integrity in all interactions
• Experience in a matrixed environment
