Medical Coder - Contract

Position Summary:

We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Certified Medical Coder to support our team on a contract basis. The ideal candidate will have strong experience in Emergency Department (ED) and Evaluation & Management (E/M) coding, with a solid understanding of ICD-10 and CPT coding standards.

Medical Coder Primary Responsibilities

  • Review EMR medical records to assign accurate ICD-10 and CPT codes for diagnoses and procedures.
  • Ensure completeness and accuracy of all coded data within required timeframes (typically within 3 business days).
  • Query physicians as needed to clarify diagnoses and procedures for accurate code assignment and sequencing.
  • Support direct coding and billing for office services, hospital procedures, and physician services.
  • Collaborate with revenue cycle management staff and collectors to resolve coding and claim issues.
  • Analyze medical record data to identify appropriate diagnostic and procedural codes.
  • Communicate with clinical teams to address and educate on coding-related matters.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Medical Coder Qualifications & Skills

  • Certification: Certified Professional Coder (CPC) required.
  • Experience: Minimum 2 years of coding experience with ICD-10 and CPT, including ED and E/M coding.
  • Education: High School Diploma required; Associate's or Bachelor's Degree preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, pharmacology, and disease processes.
  • Proficient in electronic medical record (EMR) systems and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Understanding of billing processes, insurance claims, appeals, and payment posting.
  • Excellent attention to detail, accuracy, and compliance with coding guidelines.
  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
