Safety Officer Duties and Responsibilities

1. Ensure Compliance with Safety Regulations

2. Monitor and ensure compliance with occupational health and safety (OHS) guidelines.

3. Enforce company and legal safety regulations (e.g., OSHA, ISO, local safety laws).

4. Keep up-to-date with changes in laws and regulations affecting workplace safety.

5. Risk Assessment and Hazard Identification

6. Conduct regular site inspections to identify potential hazards.

7. Perform risk assessments and implement appropriate control measures.

8. Recommend solutions to issues, improvement opportunities, or new prevention measures.

9. Safety Training and Education

10. Conduct safety induction for new employees.

11. Organize and lead safety training sessions, drills, and awareness campaigns.

12. Ensure all workers use appropriate PPE (Personal Protective Equipment).

13. Accident and Incident Investigation

14. Investigate accidents, near misses, and unsafe conditions.

15. Prepare incident reports and maintain proper documentation.

16. Recommend corrective actions to prevent reoccurrence.

17. Emergency Preparedness

18. Develop and implement emergency response plans.

19. Coordinate regular emergency drills (fire, earthquake, evacuation, etc.).

20. Ensure emergency equipment (fire extinguishers, first aid kits) is in working condition.

21. Reporting and Documentation

22. Maintain records of safety-related activities, incidents, and inspections.

23. Prepare monthly and weekly safety performance reports.

24. Keep updated logs for compliance audits and safety meetings.

25. Safety Meetings and Communication

26. Participate in toolbox talks, safety committee meetings, and management reviews.

27. Communicate safety policies clearly to all levels of employees.

28. Act as a liaison between management and workers on safety-related concerns.

29. Promote Safety Culture

30. Encourage a proactive safety-first mindset among all workers.

31. Recognize and reward good safety practices.

32. Address unsafe behavior through coaching and discipline where necessary.

33. Monitoring and Continuous Improvement

34. Monitor work activities to ensure safe practices.

35. Evaluate safety performance metrics and implement continuous improvement strategies.
36. Conduct periodic audits and recommend improvements to the safety management system.
