Data QA Engineer

Key Duties

● Validate data pipelines from raw (Bronze) through transformed (Silver) to curated (Gold) layers

by executing SQL queries and comparing results against expected outcomes.

● Test BI reporting outputs (Power BI or equivalent) to ensure metrics, calculations, and filters

align with business requirements.

● Execute test cases based on provided acceptance criteria, ensuring all key data flows are

validated end-to-end.

● Identify, log, and track defects in Jira, working closely with developers and data engineers to

resolve issues.

● Review acceptance criteria in user stories for testability and provide feedback to ensure clear

and testable requirements.

● Maintain test scripts and SQL queries to support ongoing validation activities across multiple

sprints.

● Participate in agile ceremonies including stand-ups, sprint planning, backlog refinement, and

retrospectives to align testing priorities with delivery timelines.

● Collaborate with cross-functional teams including data engineers, BI developers, and product

owners to ensure comprehensive test coverage.

● Raise risks or blockers early to minimise delivery impact and ensure prompt resolution.

● Keep testing documentation updated to reflect changes in data structures, pipelines, and

reporting logic.

● Perform schema validation to ensure that source, staging, and curated layer tables match

agreed data models and definitions.

● Verify data completeness and accuracy by comparing record counts, aggregations, and key

field values across pipeline stages.

● Validate transformation logic by checking calculated measures, derived fields, and business

rules implemented in the Silver and Gold layers.

● Support historical data load testing to confirm accuracy of migrated datasets from legacy

systems.

● Assist in regression testing after pipeline or data model changes to ensure existing functionality

is not impacted.

● Check data quality rules (e.g., null handling, duplicate removal, and formatting consistency)

against agreed acceptance criteria.

● Test access controls and permissions to confirm that data security and governance

requirements are being enforced.

● Perform sanity checks on production data post-deployment to confirm successful release

outcomes.

Key Selection Criteria:

● Strong communication skills with stakeholders of all levels

● Strong experience in testing native mobile apps for Android and iOS, including API, Responsive

● Experience in manual and exploratory testing

● Experience in writing test plans

● Experience in writing and running manual test cases

● Experience in at least one defect management tool

● Experience in a professional services environment, with illustrated success in building strong

customer relationships and work within a cross product team

● Experience working in a fast-paced Agile environment

● A desire to achieve the best outcome for our clients

● Friendly, professional, self-motivated with a drive to learn

● Tertiary qualifications in IT or similar relevant qualifications highly desirable
