Medical Coder

We are seeking an experienced
Medical Coder
with at least 3 years of hands-on coding experience to support
anesthesia
practice. This role is responsible for reviewing, researching, and coding office visits, surgical procedures, and diagnostic services using accurate CPT, ICD-10, HCPCS, and modifier assignments in full compliance with CMS guidelines. The Medical Coder will also support billing operations clinic-wide as needed and contribute to a collaborative, patient-focused environment.

Key Responsibilities
Coding & Compliance

• Review and code office, surgical, and procedural reports with accurate CPT, ICD-10, HCPCS, and modifier assignment.
• Ensure coding is compliant with CMS rules, payer regulations, and internal guidelines.
• Maintain up-to-date knowledge of CPT and ICD-10 coding updates, regulations, and specialty-specific rules.
• Audit, correct, and post charges accurately across all assigned specialties.
• Manage and resolve daily Claims Error Reports and coding-related edits.

Billing & Operational Support

• Support billing functions clinic-wide when requested.
• Review appointment reconciliation reports and ensure timely month-end closeout.
• Review A/R reports, identify coding-related issues, and make necessary corrections.
• Assist with fee ticket and procedure charge audits to ensure accuracy and completeness.

Communication & Team Collaboration

• Communicate professionally with providers, staff, patients, and internal teams.
• Obtain missing or unclear documentation from providers when needed.
• Support a teamwork-driven environment while meeting patient and provider expectations.
• Maintain strong task management and proactively address coding-related concerns.

General & Administrative

• Demonstrate consistent punctuality and excellent attendance.
• Maintain a clean and organized workspace in accordance with OSHA and clinic policies.
• Answer incoming inquiries courteously and document accurate information when taking messages.
• Stay flexible with occasional extended hours based on patient or operational needs.
• Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Minimum 3 years of medical coding experience
• Experience coding for Anesthesia.
• Proficiency with Athena and/or Altera.
• CPC certification preferred; uncertified candidates with strong experience will also be considered.
• Strong understanding of medical terminology, anatomy, and clinical documentation.
• Excellent communication, accuracy, and time-management skills.
