Job Summary

The Outpatient Facility Medical Coder is responsible for accurate and timely assignment of
ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS Level II codes
for outpatient hospital encounters to ensure compliant billing, optimal reimbursement, and adherence to regulatory and payer guidelines.

Key Responsibilities

  • Review outpatient facility medical records and assign accurate diagnosis and procedure codes
  • Code outpatient encounters including
    ED, ambulatory surgery, clinic visits, observation, and ancillary services
  • Ensure compliance with
    CMS, Medicare, Medicaid, and commercial payer
    guidelines
  • Identify and correct coding errors to prevent denials and rework
  • Collaborate with CDI, billing, and AR teams to resolve coding-related issues
  • Maintain productivity and quality benchmarks
  • Stay current with coding updates, payer policies, and regulatory changes

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Active
    AAPC or AHIMA certification
    (CPC, COC, CCS, or equivalent)
  • 2+ years of
    outpatient facility coding
    experience
  • Strong knowledge of
    ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS
  • Experience with
    US hospital outpatient coding
    preferred
  • Familiarity with EHR systems (Epic preferred)
  • High attention to detail and strong compliance mindset

Preferred Skills

  • Experience coding
    ED and ASC cases
  • Knowledge of
    NCCI edits and OPPS
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, production-driven environment
