Job Summary

A Speech Therapist is responsible for assessing, diagnosing, and treating speech, language, communication, and swallowing disorders in individuals of all ages. The primary goal is to improve the quality of life for patients by helping them develop or regain their communication skills and manage any related conditions.

Key Responsibilities:

Assessment & Diagnosis:

  • Conduct comprehensive speech, language, and communication assessments to identify impairments or delays.
  • Develop individualized treatment plans based on patient evaluations.
  • Administer and interpret standardized speech and language assessments.
  • Identify areas of concern, such as articulation disorders, voice disorders, stuttering, language delays, and swallowing difficulties.

Treatment & Therapy:

  • Provide speech therapy services to patients based on their specific needs and treatment plans.
  • Teach exercises to improve speech articulation, fluency, and voice control.
  • Work on language development skills, including vocabulary, grammar, comprehension, and social communication.
  • Provide swallowing therapy and work with patients on eating and drinking safely.

Documentation & Reporting:

  • Maintain accurate records of patient progress, treatments, and therapy sessions.
  • Prepare progress reports and communicate regularly with family members, caregivers, or other healthcare providers about progress and recommendations.

Collaboration & Education:

  • Work closely with teachers, caregivers, and medical professionals to ensure a coordinated approach to the patient's care.
  • Provide training or guidance to parents and caregivers on how to support communication development at home.
  • Stay updated with current speech therapy techniques, treatments, and technologies.

Qualifications:

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in Speech-Language Pathology or a related field from a recognized institution.
  • Must be licensed by the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) in the Philippines as a Speech Pathologist/Speech Language Pathologist.

Experience:

  • Prior experience in speech therapy, particularly in a clinical or hospital setting, is preferred.
  • Experience working with children and/or adults with speech, language, and communication disorders.

Skills & Abilities:

  • Strong knowledge of speech-language therapy techniques and strategies.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Patience and empathy for individuals with communication difficulties.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Organizational skills for managing patient records and therapy schedules.

Other Requirements:

  • Strong interpersonal skills to engage with patients and their families.
  • Willingness to continue professional development and attend relevant workshops or seminars.
