Electro-Mechanical and Process Design Head

Job description:

A highly experienced and strategic Head of Electro-Mechanical and Process Design to lead the design and integration of electro-mechanical systems and process engineering for small to large-scale Water and Wastewater and EPC infrastructure projects. to lead the integrated engineering and innovation function for our Water and Wastewater EPC infrastructure projects. This leadership role will be responsible not only for overseeing detailed electro-mechanical and process engineering but also for driving applied research and development efforts to improve design methodologies, technology adoption, and project execution efficiency.

Engineering Leadership & Technical Direction

• Lead and manage multi-disciplinary teams responsible for electro-mechanical and process design on water and wastewater and other infrastructure projects.
• Develop technical strategies and design guidelines aligned with project requirements, regulatory standards, and sustainability objectives.

Electro-Mechanical Systems Design

• Lead the selection and design integration of key mechanical and electrical equipment such as:
• Pumps, blowers, valves, piping systems
• Motors, MCCs, VFDs, control panels
• Instrumentation, sensors, and automation systems
• Power distribution systems and backup power (generators, UPS)
• Ensure seamless integration of electrical and mechanical components into process systems.

Process Design & Optimization

• Provide leadership in process design of water and wastewater treatment systems (e.g., sedimentation, filtration, disinfection, biological treatment, sludge handling).
• Validate treatment process parameters and hydraulic profiles through process simulations and pilot testing as necessary.
• Lead process optimization initiatives to improve plant efficiency, reduce energy consumption, and ensure compliance with discharge norms.

Project Execution (EPC Focus)

• Interface with procurement teams to prepare technical specifications, datasheets, and vendor bid evaluations for major electro-mechanical packages.
• Support project planning, scheduling, and constructability reviews from design to commissioning.
• Coordinate with construction and commissioning teams to resolve site-based design challenges and ensure smooth handover.

Regulatory, Quality & Safety Compliance

• Ensure designs are compliant with relevant codes, standards, and client specifications (e.g., IS/IEC codes, ISO, and national/local regulatory bodies).
• Implement rigorous quality checks, design reviews, and risk assessments.
• Champion safety in design (SID) principles throughout all phases.

Research & Development Supervision

• Define and lead the R&D roadmap to explore new technologies in water/wastewater treatment, energy optimization, automation, and digital solutions.
• Collaborate with academic institutions, research labs, and technology providers to evaluate emerging solutions (e.g., advanced oxidation, biosensors, AI/ML in plant control).
• Supervise pilot-scale studies, technology validations, and proof-of-concept trials for new treatment methods and equipment.
• Foster a culture of innovation by mentoring engineering teams in experimentation, data-driven analysis, and design thinking.

Collaboration - Working with cross-functional teams (e.g., marketing, sales, project management) to ensure design solutions meet all requirements.

Resource Management - Developing and managing budgets, ensuring efficient allocation of resources, and identifying cost-effective solutions.

Performance Review: Conducting performance reviews, providing feedback, and helping team members develop their skills.

Safety and Compliance - Ensuring adherence to safety regulations and industry standards.

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENT

· Graduate of Chemical, Civil, Sanitary, Electrical or Mechanical Engineering, preferably licensed Chemical or Mechanical Engineer

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

· With more than 10 years applicable or relevant work experience

· At least 5 years as Senior Design Engineer

· With strong experience in Water and Waste Water Design

· Proven experience in large-scale municipal or industrial water/wastewater treatment plants, pumping stations, STPs, ETPs, and WTPs

SKILLS REQUIREMENTS

· Strong Leadership & Management Skills: Proven ability to lead, motivate, and develop teams.

· Technical Expertise:

o Strong command over software tools like AutoCAD, EPLAN, ETAP, WaterGEMS, SewerGEMS, HAP, SCADA design platforms, and hydraulic modeling tools

o Hands-on experience in electrical load calculations, equipment sizing, and control system architecture

o Familiarity with tendering processes and EPC project execution cycle

· Project Management Skills: Experience in managing projects from start to finish, including planning, scheduling, and budgeting.

· Communication & Interpersonal Skills: Excellent communication, collaboration, and presentation skills.

· Problem-Solving & Analytical Skills: Ability to identify problems, analyze data, and develop effective solutions.

· Industry Knowledge: Deep understanding of the specific industry or sector in which the company operates.

· Exemplary work experience as an Engineering Head preferably in water/wastewater and EPC projects

· Significant working knowledge of design and visualization software such as AutoCAD, MS Project, etc.

· Advanced MS Office skills

· Familiarity and ability to comply with all applicable rules, regulations, best practices, and performance standards

· Aptitude for working collaboratively with multiple disciplines within teams and projects

· Proven success in the areas of project management and supervision

· Current certifications in applicable skills a plus
