Job Description: GL Accountant / Accounting Specialist

Overview

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented
GL Accountant / Accounting Specialist
to join our finance team. The ideal candidate will have direct, hands-on experience in core accounting functions, including
account reconciliation, month-end close procedures, and daily General Ledger (GL) activities
. This role is critical in ensuring the accuracy and integrity of our financial records.

Key Responsibilities

General Ledger (GL) Accounting & Daily Operations

  • Perform and oversee all daily General Ledger activities, ensuring proper classification and recording of transactions in accordance with GAAP.
  • Process journal entries, ensuring appropriate supporting documentation and approvals.
  • Maintain the GL structure, including creating and inactivating accounts as needed.

Account Reconciliation

  • Execute regular and timely reconciliations
    for various balance sheet and select income statement accounts (e.g., bank accounts, accounts receivable/payable, intercompany accounts, fixed assets, accruals, prepaid expenses).
  • Investigate and resolve all reconciling items and discrepancies promptly.
  • Ensure that account balances are accurately supported and documented.

Month-End Close Procedures

  • Take ownership of specific areas within the month-end close process, adhering to strict deadlines.
  • Prepare and post complex, recurring, and reversing journal entries (e.g., depreciation, amortization, accruals, deferrals).
  • Perform detailed variance analysis of actual results against budget/prior periods.
  • Assist in the preparation of internal financial statements and reports for management review.

Other Duties

  • Support external and internal audits by providing necessary documentation and explanations.
  • Develop and maintain documentation of accounting policies and procedures.
  • Collaborate with other departments to ensure accurate and timely financial reporting.
  • Identify and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency and accuracy in the GL and closing functions.

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 3+ years of direct, hands-on experience
    in a similar role with a strong focus on GL accounting, reconciliations, and month-end close.
  • Demonstrated proficiency
    in performing complex account reconciliations and resolving discrepancies.
  • Solid knowledge of U.S. Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel (e.g., VLOOKUPs, Pivot Tables).

Preferred

  • Experience with a major ERP system (e.g., SAP, Oracle, NetSuite).
  • Proficient in using QuickBooks Online.
  • CPA or actively pursuing certification.
  • Experience working with multi-currency or intercompany transactions.
