BROAD SCOPE:

  • The Safety Officer is responsible to facilitate compliance with occupational health and safety (OHS) guidelines. He will provide advice on measures to minimize hazards or unhealthy situations. He will also be on a constant lookout for violations. The goal is to establish a safe workplace according to legal standards and foster a culture of attention to health and safety.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES/ RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Support the development of OHS policies and programs.
  • Advise and instruct on various safety-related topics (noise levels, use of machinery etc.)
  • Conduct risk assessment and enforce preventative measures.
  • Review existing policies and measures and update according to legislation.
  • Initiate and organize OHS training & First Aid training of employees and executives.
  • Inspect premises and the work of personnel to identify issues or non-conformity (e.g. not using protective equipment).
  • Oversee installations, maintenance, disposal of substances etc.
  • Stop any unsafe acts or processes that seem dangerous or unhealthy.
  • Record and investigate incidents to determine causes and handle worker's compensation claims.
  • Prepare reports on occurrences and provide statistical information to upper management.
  • Any other reasonable duties which may be required by management from time to time related to the Safety in the Warehouse and Office.

REQUIREMENTS:

EDUCATION / QUALIFICATION:

  • Candidate must possess at least Bachelor's/College Degree in any field.
  • Accredited Certificate in occupational health and safety.
  • SO2 – Mandatory forty (40)-hour Basic OSH Training Course applicable to the industry.
  • SO3 - an employee who has completed the mandatory forty (40)-hour OSH training course applicable to the industry, additional forty-eight (48) hours of advanced/specialized occupational safety training course relevant to the industry, relevant experience in OSH for at least two (2) years, and other requirements as prescribed in the OSH standards. Qualified SO3 shall be eligible for certification as OSH practitioner.

EXPERIENCE:

  • SO2/SO3 With at least 6 months to 2 yrs of working experience on the related field.
  • In depth knowledge of legislation (e.g. OSHA/EPA) and procedures.
  • Knowledge of potentially hazardous materials or practices.
  • Experience in writing reports and policies for health and safety.
  • Familiarity with conducting data analysis and reporting statistics.

SKILLS:

  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to present and explain health and safety topics.
  • Proficient in MS Office; Working knowledge of safety management information systems is a plus.
  • Outstanding organizational skills. Diligent with great attention to detail.
  • Highly responsible & reliable.
  • Ability to work well under pressure in a fast paced environment.
  • Ability to work cohesively with fellow colleagues as part of a team.
  • Ability to focus attention on guest needs, remaining calm and courteous at all times.
