Job Description:

  • Participate in the Design Engineering Team to ensure the timely and accurate design of innovative, cost effective, compliant engineering solutions and integrated designs and estimates for assigned overhead, underground and communications projects, ensuring safety and quality outcomes for the client with high levels of satisfaction to customers.
  • Participate in and support in a Specialist Team, providing lines design engineering consultancy services, ensuring co-ordination of multidisciplinary design production, liaison with key stakeholders including impacted landowners, statutory authorities, government departments, industry partners, suppliers, customers and council groups to meet project design and estimate completion objectives.
  • Assist in mentoring and training of other Design Team members in all aspects of design, including participating in the quality – audits / assessments of designs generated internally and by the wider Distribution Design team.
  • Assist in the preparation of engineering specifications inclusive of assessment of tenders for Design, Construction, materials and specialist consultancy services.
  • Provide technical advice to enable accurate project scope definition, approval estimates and balanced customer outcomes through collaboration with stakeholders during the project planning and concept phase.
  • Manage personal safety, safety in design and own professional development.

  • Comply with all relevant legislation, policies, procedures and practices.

Job Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, or any related field.
  • Demonstrated knowledge in the application of engineering software, calculations and analysis techniques in a multi-disciplinary environment, including AutoCAD/BricsCAD and profiling software.
  • Ability to manage and perform accurate engineering field surveys and record the "as constructed" installations of underground and overhead line projects and produce or update plans accordingly.
  • Ability to interpret project scope documents to produce works plans for sub-transmission lines construction works and HV/LV cabling works.
  • Ability to determine, specify, analyze quotes, procure and inspect materials for overhead and underground sub-transmission and special distribution projects.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage work, to meet required targets with a high level of autonomy whilst adhering to the "direct supervision" requirements of the Professional Engineers Act.
  • Ability to respond to and track customer enquiries.
  • Demonstrated commitment to workplace health and safety and best practice environment management negotiation skills dealing with the public, design and construction contractors, statutory authorities and local authorities when applied to Lines Design.
  • High level of written and oral communication ability, along with well-developed interpersonal and negotiating skills including effective communication with field staff to ensure key aspects of designs are communicated and feedback from constructors is acknowledged, incorporated, and shared with other design team members.
