Job Description

Position Overview

The client is is seeking an experienced, reliable, and highly organized Practice Manager with strong knowledge of the Australian accounting and tax environment. This role is critical to the smooth operation of the firm and involves managing staff, systems, workflows, and client relationships while working closely with the CEO.

The ideal candidate is a proactive leader who takes ownership, communicates confidently, and ensures operational excellence across the practice.

Key Skills & Experience Required

Australian Accounting & Tax Expertise

  • Strong knowledge of the Australian accounting system, tax laws, and compliance requirements
  • Extensive experience handling:
  • Individual and company tax returns
  • Family trusts, SMSFs, and investment trusts
  • Trust distributions, dividends, and franking credits
  • ABN and GST registrations
  • Financial statements and management reports
  • Profit & Loss statements and Balance Sheets
  • Depreciation rules and methods

Software Knowledge

  • Proficient in, or willing to quickly learn:
  • Xero
  • XPM
  • QuickBooks
  • MYOB
  • LodgeIT

Accounting Practice Operations

  • Experience managing accounting practice operations and staff
  • Strong background in:
  • Bookkeeping
  • Payroll compliance
  • Timesheet management
  • Invoicing and billing
  • Experience with engagement letters, client onboarding, and ongoing client follow-ups

Management & Communication Responsibilities

  • Manage and supervise the entire team, ensuring accountability and performance
  • Control staff workflows, timesheets, and task allocation
  • Handle employment contracts and staff administration
  • Maintain professional email and phone communication
  • Confidently answer landline and client calls
  • Communicate clearly and professionally with clients and stakeholders
  • Provide prompt, reliable, and friendly responses

Leadership & Brand Representation

  • Work closely with the CEO as a trusted and dependable support
  • Manage and respond to emails on behalf of the CEO when required
  • Represent the company brand professionally at all times
  • Assist with company registrations and business setups
  • Promote other company services during client interactions where appropriate
  • Help implement, improve, and maintain systems and processes across the organization
  • Ensure staff compliance and drive continuous improvement
