Job Description

As a Medical Records Specialist, you'll manage, organize, and maintain patient medical records to ensure compliance, accuracy, and accessibility. You'll collaborate with healthcare professionals, assist with billing and documentation requests, and safeguard sensitive patient information according to HIPAA standards.

The Qualifications We Seek

• At least 6 months of related experience
• Basic knowledge of medical terminology
• Strong organizational and communication skills
• Detail-oriented with excellent data entry skills
• Superior customer service abilities
• Ability to manage multiple projects and timelines

Your Daily Tasks

• Maintain master patient index by completing assigned portions of the daily audit trail; correct and communicate problems according to established procedures
• Initiate medical records by creating and processing patient care record folders
• Maintain record availability by processing charts, using chart mark-off procedures, and facilitating chart location activities
• Inform healthcare providers of the availability or unavailability of records
• Request, upload, and log medical records
• Assist the billing department with requests for medical records
• Review records for completeness, accuracy, and regulatory compliance
• Prepare medical records for submission to insurance
• Maintain continuity of work operations by documenting and communicating actions, irregularities, and continuing needs
• Follow HIPAA policies and procedures to ensure the security of protected health information
• Perform other duties as assigned
