The Applications Architect is responsible for designing robust, scalable, and high-performing application solutions that support the organization's digital and business transformation goals. This role ensures that application architecture aligns with enterprise strategies, technical standards, and evolving technology trends. The Application Architect works closely with business and technical teams to deliver adaptable, secure, and efficient application systems that meet both current and future business needs.

Roles and Responsibilities:

Application Architecture Development

  • Design end-to-end application architectures for new solutions and major system enhancements.
  • Ensure alignment of application architecture with enterprise-wide strategies, technology standards, and reference models.
  • Define architectural patterns and frameworks to support scalable and maintainable applications.
  • Create and maintain architectural artifacts such as component models, sequence diagrams, and technical documentation.

Technology Evaluation and Integration

  • Evaluate tools, platforms, frameworks, and third-party solutions to recommend best-fit technologies.
  • Support the integration of applications with existing systems through modern APIs, messaging protocols, and service-based designs.
  • Ensure interoperability, security, and performance in application integration.

Collaboration with Stakeholders

  • Work with business analysts and product owners to translate functional requirements into technical specifications.
  • Collaborate with developers, DevOps engineers, and enterprise architects to ensure architectural integrity throughout the solution lifecycle.
  • Engage with cross-functional teams to promote adherence to architectural standards and best practices.

Governance and Compliance

  • Contribute to the definition and enforcement of application development standards and guidelines.
  • Ensure compliance with security, privacy, and regulatory requirements during application design and development.
  • Participate in architecture review boards and technical design assessments.

Innovation and Continuous Improvement

  • Stay current with emerging technologies, tools, and trends in application development and software architecture.
  • Propose and drive improvements in development methodologies, coding standards, and architectural practices.
  • Foster the adoption of agile and DevOps approaches to improve delivery speed and solution quality.

Position Requirements:

Education and Certifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
  • Preferred certifications: AWS/Azure Architect Certifications, TOGAF Foundation, or equivalent.

Experience

  • Minimum of 7 years in software development and architecture roles, including at least 3 years in an application architect capacity.
  • Experience designing cloud-native applications and using modern architecture styles (e.g., microservices, event-driven, serverless).
  • Familiarity with application architecture modeling tools and enterprise integration patterns.

Skills and Competencies

  • Deep understanding of software development life cycle (SDLC) and agile methodologies.
  • Strong knowledge of cloud platforms (AWS, Azure), RESTful API design, and system integration.
  • Proficient in distributed systems, service-oriented architecture (SOA), and modern application frameworks.
  • Excellent analytical, documentation, communication, and stakeholder engagement skills.
