Technical Consultant

Global Food Partners (GFP) is seeking a Technical Consultant to progress its producer engagement work in the Philippines. Global Food Partners is a Singapore-based multinational consulting firm that works with food businesses and egg producers to implement and maintain high animal welfare responsible sourcing policies and production practices, with a focus on cage-free eggs in Asia. The role of the Technical Consultant is primarily to provide scientific guidance and technical assistance to egg producers in the Philippines transitioning to higher welfare cage-free production systems, in collaboration with GFP's Science & Extension team and the Philippines country lead.

The Technical Consultant is expected to visit egg farms, conduct farm assessments, and provide technical assistance and scientific expertise. The role will involve travel to farms and walking through the farms to inspect the flock, features within the housing facility, and overall management. It will also involve providing consultancy to cage-free egg producers and producers considering adopting cage-free systems.

The role of the consultant is primarily to assist GFP's Science and Extension team in the delivery of on-farm consultancy services as part of our work to support the transition to cage-free egg production systems and improve layer hen welfare in the Philippines. This role will involve working remotely with an international team geographically dispersed in different countries and will involve both desk and field work, travel, and long periods of sitting and walking. Responsibilities will include:Working with egg producers and other key egg industry stakeholders in the Philippines to implement higher welfare, best practice cage-free production systems.

Traveling and conducting field visits to commercial egg farms in the Philippines. Liaising with farmers and farm technicians to coordinate visits and provide guidance on best practices while at the farms. Completion of on-farm assessments including written reports and taking photos and videos.

Sending farm assessment reports to the GFP Science & Extension team. Liaising with GFP's headquarters for travel coordination. Assisting the GFP team in completing post-visit reports and communicating with the farmers throughout this process and after the process when necessary.

Provision of advice for farmers in the implementation of recommendations where appropriate. Translation and interpretation where appropriate. Contributing to resources such as image libraries, guidelines, and fact sheets when necessary.

Have relevant scientific, agricultural or project management qualifications or experience, ideally in livestock production or welfare

Have a thorough knowledge of laying hen welfare and egg production systems

Have excellent organisational and problem-solving skills and attention to detail

Have project management experience, or demonstrated ability to be able to fulfill the responsibilities of the role (as above)Have excellent written and verbal communication skills in EnglishBe proficient in Microsoft Office applications

Work well independently and as part of a team
