Lead DevOps Engineer

ImportGenius provides real-time access to comprehensive import and export records across 18 countries. As our Lead DevOps Engineer, you will design, build, and operate the cloud infrastructure that powers our data-driven platform and services. From proof of concept through production, you'll lead the delivery of scalable, secure, and highly available solutions that support mission-critical applications and enable reliable, low-risk releases for customers and internal teams.

To thrive in this role, you'll bring a strong background in cloud infrastructure and DevOps, a proactive, ownership-driven mindset, and clear communication with both technical and non-technical stakeholders. You'll be a trusted advisor and technical leader, ensuring our infrastructure not only supports, but accelerates our product and business goals. You'll also champion modern DevOps/SRE practices, an automation-first approach to eliminate toil, and DORA metrics for continuous, data-driven improvement baking them into our pipelines, reviews, and runbooks.

Responsibility and Accountability

• Architect, own, and evolve a secure-by-default AWS platform (e.g., VPC, IAM/KMS, ALB/NLB, CloudFront, Route 53) aligned to product and business objectives.
• Define org-wide standards for IaC and GitOps (Terraform/CDK/AWS ACK); ship reusable modules, guardrails, and code reviews.
• Design and standardize CI/CD pipelines (e.g., Github Actions/GitLab CI). Automate provisioning, deployments, and configuration management with progressive delivery, automated rollbacks, policy gates, and SBOMs.
• Lead the configuration, maintenance, and compliance of production and development environments, ensuring PCI and/or other security standards
• Proactively identify system vulnerabilities and lead the implementation of solutions for performance, availability, and security improvements
• Build end-to-end observability (metrics, logs, traces, synthetics) with actionable, low-noise alerting; maintain dashboards for service health and user experience.
• Drive FinOps practices with engineering and finance: rightsizing, autoscaling, Savings Plans/Reserved Instances, cost allocation, and unit-economics tracking.
• Collaborate closely with development, QA, and product teams to align infrastructure needs with product roadmap
• Manage incident response and post-incident learning: own on-call rotations and escalations, run blameless post-mortems, maintain runbooks, and continuously reduce MTTR.
• Drive documentation of DevOps processes, policies, and systems.
• Mentor and grow other DevOps engineers through pairing, design reviews, and clear technical direction.

Preferred Qualifications and Skills

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Software Engineering, or a related field.
• Deep experience with AWS services, including

Compute, Storage, Networking, Database, IAM, CloudWatch, ECS/EKS, and more
- Strong scripting and automation skills with Python, Bash, or similar
- Hands-on experience with infrastructure as code tools like Terraform or CloudFormation
- Familiarity with containerization technologies such as Docker and orchestration with Kubernetes
- Strong knowledge of Linux/Unix server administration
- Proven experience in implementing CI/CD pipelines using tools such as Jenkins, GitHub Actions, or GitLab CI
- Database management experience with MySQL, MongoDB, and DynamoDB
- Solid understanding of version control systems (Git), Agile methodologies, and RESTful APIs
- Understanding of security best practices and compliance frameworks

(e.g., PCI-DSS, SOC 2)

Having one of these is a plus

• Experience with ElasticSearch/OpenSearch and Sphinx Search
• AWS Cloud Practitioner Certification
