PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:

The Safety Officer is responsible for ensuring that all workplace activities comply with occupational health and safety (OHS) regulations and internal safety standards. Reporting to the safety supervisor/ safety superintendent and the project manager. This role involves identifying potential hazards, implementing preventive measures, and fostering a culture of safety across the organization.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develop, implement, and monitor safety policies and procedures in accordance with regulatory requirements.
  • Conduct regular site inspections and risk assessments to identify hazards and recommend corrective actions.
  • Investigate incidents, accidents, and near-misses; prepare detailed reports and recommend preventive measures.
  • Facilitate safety training programs, toolbox talks, and emergency drills for all personnel.
  • Maintain accurate records of safety audits, inspections, training, and incident reports.
  • Ensure proper use and availability of personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Collaborate with department heads and supervisors to address safety concerns and promote continuous improvement.
  • Stay informed on updates to safety legislation and industry best practices.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities that maybe required from time to time.

QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Graduate of any Bachelor's degree or a related field (is highly desirable).
  • Certification/Training in safety management (e.g., BOSH, COSH, LCM, TOT, SPA, and IOSH) is preferred.
  • Minimum of 2–5 years of experience in a safety-related role, preferably in construction, quarrying, or mining settings.
  • For collegiate undergraduate level applicant, at least 3 years experience in a safety related role.
  • Strong knowledge of local and international safety regulations and standards, risk assessment, and emergency response procedures.

  • Excellent communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills.

  • DELIVERABLES:

  • Field and office-based; frequent site visits required.
  • May involve exposure to construction, quarrying and surface mining environments and varying weather conditions.
  • All statutory reporting and communication requirements (i.e., OSH/ MGB reportorials)
  • Accuracy of Monthly Reports and submitted at CHQ-QSHE on time.

INTER/INTRA PERSONAL RELATIONSHIPS:

  • Will maintain close liaison with the superior and project counterparts.
  • The position must work effectively with the member of the team.
  • The position will work harmoniously with all levels of the organization.
