Unilever is celebrated for its relentless innovation, not only in product development but also in its strategic and operational frameworks. The Compass strategy was devised to empower the business with effective profit and loss management.
Building on this foundation, the Finance Target Operating Model (TOM) delineates the roles and workflows for National Finance Teams with precision. Compass also sought to reduce organizational costs, and the adoption of disruptive technology further underscored the rationale for TOM. Launched in July 2022, the Compass strategy set the stage for the TOM Project, which commenced in 2023 to elevate Compass's vision, integrating seamlessly with the dynamic technological landscape.
TOM has established principles for Controlling within the Controlling organization by being process experts, managing end-to-end financial reporting, and helping the business manage risks and protect value. A three-tier model identifies ownership, ensuring controls are in place. Market Controllers will maintain external relations, ensure local compliance, mitigate risk, and ensure controls and compliance when there are new business models and key changes to ways of working.

The World Health Organization estimates that there are one billion people in the world currently living with a disability. That's about 15% of the global population, or 1 in 7 of us. And the statistics suggest that people living with disabilities are among the most marginalised populations in the world in terms of employment and educational opportunity.
Removing the barriers facing people living with disability is a priority for our business. It isn't just the right thing to do – we believe that creating equality of opportunity will unlock a huge pool of talent. It also gets to the heart of the ambition to 'leave no one behind' – and could contribute to the five Sustainable Development Goals which explicitly reference disability and to the wider sustainable development agenda.
In 2018, we set ourselves global commitments to achieve by 2025:to be the number one employer of choice for people with disabilities, andto increase the number of employees with disabilities to 5% of our total workforce. These are ambitious targets. They involve transforming the way we recruit and train our people.
And they mean adapting both the way we work and our workplaces, so that we can support people with disabilities to reach their full potential. "We cannot be an inclusive organisation unless we ensure that we have created the conditionsand the culture for people with a disability to thrive."We are keen to find out about your talent, and offer the support you need.
